That is true indeed but you do see signs on escalators saying please stand to the side and that is to allow others who may be in a hurry to get past, I find there is always someone who blocks the whole section so no one can get past.

I see loads of people passing others on escalators.escalators are of great assistance where there are a lot of stairs so climbing them would be tiring but the escalator can still be walked up even when moving rather than just standing waiting to get the top with no one else on it.

As I say, I don't like them anyway, I was once on one and a woman behind me with shopping had one of her bags split and loose potatoes rolled down the escalator and as I moved to avoid them I slipped on them and went rolling to the end of the escalator.I guess it would have been funny if someone had a phone camera/video on when that happened.
