This is usually a rock solid Conservative seat.
In 2005 and 2010 it was a possible Lib Dem breakthrough seat.

Now it should remain a rock solid Conservative seat again,and bearing in mind too this area voted strongly leave, no way should the Conservatives suffer here.
Also UKIP who were in this seat narrowly behind Labour after the Lib Dem crash in 2015, should really be able to make a big mark here, if they really are a force to reckoned with.

This is going to be a really interesting seat to watch next week in this by-election.

I expected this result, it is one of those for sure should be Conservative seats,bearing in mind the leave vote there too in June, it should not have been good territory for other parties other than UKIP.

However, here in a by election UKIP see their share of the vote fall, yes they move into 2nd but the Conservatives take over 50% of the votes.

I did however expect Labour to be above the Lib Dems, who other than the Independent candidate standing are the only party to increase their share of the vote here.

No real surprise n this one then for me except I expected UKIP to do much better and run the Conservatives much closer than they did,not actually decrease as to their share of the votes cast at all.

I have to say I think this was a terrible result for Labour. I am starting to wonder if what happened in Scotland might happen in the rest of the UK with Labour becoming a third or fourth place party and not the opposition it has been for many years. I think it's going to be interesting to watch any further votes.

It's true this was a safe Tory seat and it was always going to be, what is worrying for the Labour party is coming after UKIP and Lib Dem.

I expect Diane Abbott will be on telly later with her patronising voice telling us all that Jeremy Corbin is the new massiah. Fun times.

I am not surprised by the low turnout, and labour have been hitting there heads on the door for years now, because they are so pro high immigration with no borders and then the final straw came with them telling working class voters that they can't make the decision on the brexit vote because they are not intellligent or well educated enough to make the choice on britain leaving the EU, the problem with britain, the unted states, europe, and canada, is that they all suffer from the same thing, and that is identity politics, the democrats lost to trump because they played the identity politics game as to what labour are doing right now, they won't win the next election, and they won't be in opposition power next time, now ukip, they may sound like a tory offshoot party, but they are now growing to be the voice of the working class, and all they need to do is sit on the fence and wait on theresa doing a cock up on brexit, because she won't get britain a hard brexit, it will be a soft brexit,

No wonder really... Labour pushed into 4th place (from 2nd in 2015) behind UKIP and the hopelessly limp Lib-Dems. The result was described by a veteran Labour MP as "humiliating". And it was.

The Tories love Corbyn. He's the biggest weapon in their arsenal.

I have commented and I have said anything other than a Conservative win in this seat is not only unlikely but unthinkable.

I wouldn't be reading a great deal into a by election with a bare 37% turnout and between only 1% and 3% for 2nd to 4th places in same.

Which on paper looks bad for all parties except the Conservatives, who in this particular seat are as near as it is possible to get to be, the guaranteed winners here no matter what.

What is the point of Corbyn supporters commenting anyway as you yourself will only likely shout them down and possibly try to ridicule them.

Fewer people voted Labour than there are Labour members in the area.

So you will no doubt personally likely hope but I think and strongly hope you are mistaken in that.

Hardly anyone turned out to vote in that by-election, even only half the voters who voted Conservative just 18 months ago didn't bother either.

No one gets a good result anyway with such a dismal turnout.

The again it is effectively a one party seat so maybe that is why so few even bothered.
Nearly two thirds of voters stayed away.

Not an election I would be crowing about or read much into either.
Much more worrying is that pathetic turnout of voters for the lot of them.

It's a decent result for them to beat Labour and only just get less votes than Ukip. Both the Tories and Lib Dems can be optimistic about this result, Ukip and Labour should both be worried by it
