Thus these are all conclusions based on bias because they aren't based on anything factual.
I know a clear-cut case of baiting when I see it and I know double standards when I see them. As I said I have experience. That's all I need to know. It seems several others have had similar experiences.

The appeals section was removed because most people misused it to insult the mods or would waste everyone's time trying to appeal infractions that they obviously deserved. Very few people used the Appeals section correctly.
I have had posts removed and been warned/infracted, whilst the gloating post to which I reacted has been left there for all to see. That's how I know. I remember a joke being made about my husband aftger he died. I went lost it and my post was removed. The offending post was left there ALLLL day until I begged a mod to remove it - it was Marc, actually, who finally removed it. I have the evidence of my own experience, I don't need anecdotal evidence from anyone else. This isn't the only experience I've had of this either. And I won't be alone... So there's my evidence. Other people will have theirs too. I could find plenty of evidence of your own posts breaking forum rules and being overlooked.

If the appeals section was abused the answer is not to remove it, it is surely to put an end to its abuse. As I've said before, give people, say, 300 words max for a plea of mitigation to be look at but the mods. Once a decision has been made no other correspondence will be entered into on fear of a ban. You don't remove something for everyone because a handful of people abused it. If you don't have an appeals section then allowing one set of forum members to infract and ban another set of forum members, but not be open to any kind of punishment themselves, is ridiculous. Unless you feel that you, as a moderator on this forum, are entitled to refer to people as "dear" knowing that it's aggravating, and being personal and thoroughly unpleasant to the point of baiting... and then handing out infractions to people doing the same, is acceptable.

I think those same people who abused the appeals section are the same ones who abuse the report button... of course, I only have anecdotal evidence about that... but I'm sure plenty of people are in a like mind.

Nah, I used the appeals section to insult mods a couple of times but I've never misused the report button. Unless not using it at all counts as misuse...

Just because a post doesn't get removed doesn't mean that the member who posted doesn't get infracted, it may shock you to know this Livia so please sit down just in case but the mods are actually, get this, human. It's shocking I know but sometimes when we've got multiple posts to delete or clean up then we occasionally miss one. It doesn't mean that post wasn't punished, especially if it was as you said it was.

Appeals just didn't work, people saw it as a free way to get their infractions reversed and they would always respond badly when that wasn't the case. It was a melting pot and it rarely worked as intended. If you get infracted and you disagree with it then there's nothing stopping you from PMing a mod but a lot of people don't bother. When I get a PM about an infraction, I'll always look into it and then either try to clarify it if the infraction is unclear or simply offer a second opinion as a mod. It's basically an appeal without the hassle that the section brought to the forum. I don't see the need in bringing it back when it was a huge failure to begin with.

I have only reported someone once. I think it was Cal when I joined because he made a joke about my daughter. I was new and didn't know that he was joking now I think he's lovely and a great poster. I would probably laugh if I read it again now. R.

What a terrible experience Livia - I'm lost for words that that could happen. I do believe that there is an unfair system on here that needs to be looked into , but your experience was unforgivable. Much as I like to consider myself Wordly-wise I am still amazed and dumbfounded by the depths some people will sink to.

I've never been banned, that's not my issue. I do have a problem with bias and unfairness though, and its not happened once, it's repeated time after time after time.

If people are not posting on this site, its because they are being driven away in frustration. While some posters might like to test boundaries and stir things up a bit for a bit of controversy and dare I say it entertainment, there is a clique on here that use passive aggressive tactics to belittle others. The may not have broken any specific rules, but their intentions are clear as are there motives.

I've heard so often that everyone is fair etc etc, its just not true, and if you try and say anything against it you are hit with a break wall or threatened with a ban or whatever. Its laughable, it really is.
You weren't hit with a brick wall at all in fact if I remember correctly you ended up being quite rude in your last replies to myself and James when we were replying to you in a respectable manner with suggestions, I'm sure I still have the messages which I will look back at later.

If someone chooses to leave the site then that's up to them but we certainly won't be given or agree to any ultimatums to keep that person here, that's not the way it works tbh

Sorry not sorry.

If I'm infracted I now know I deserved it, and if it was due to a any nasty comments based on me personally, or where I live for instance I report that post and then we both get infracted.
That is fair.
