I was unaware he was ever percieved/considered as not being very intelligent? He's the smartest guy in there, has been from day one.

Dont know if it is interesting but from what I remember the original IQ tests carried out in the USA seperated Italian immigrants from English speaking ones due to their lack of ability to understand instructions given to the tests.

I know IQ tests have come a long way there but sometimes do wonder what being able to fit a triangle in a box a certain way round or finding a missing number in a sequence can mean to life's challenges. In fact a true genius would probably think stuff up the examiner doesnt ever recognise as being a potential "right answer".

Always wondered how a person could ever be able to work out if he spoke to the most intelligent how intelligent that person was without being on the same level.

But then I am sad and think about stuff like that WAY too much.

If the IQ levels given on the forum are correct - then he is not the most intelligent - Freddie was most intelligent of the males! A female (Sophia) was the most intelligent of the bunch!

Dont know I started taking an interest after I saw Bea and Kenneth in the garden and was too facinated by Bea to notice Marcus.

He came over as a bit dumb at the time to me and thought that quite a few folk had that impression of him.

Sophia, Freddie & Marcus scored about 130.

Lisa & Saffia scored about 50.

Noirin scored 80.

The others were about average - between 90 &100.

Do you really feel IQ tests are a very good indication of different types of intelligence?

I'm sorry - but they don't sound right to me!

80 is a low score - about equal with someone with downs syndrome! I don't believe Noirin was only 80!

And 50 - that is too low - my understanding is that 50 would be backward! Lisa is actually quite sharp - no way is she 50!

IQ tests just measure logical thought processes. You can teach yourself to be more intelligent (if that makes sense!) by repeatly doing the tests you can up your score. I think there are other types of tests to measure different thought processes.

I know Charlie is more intelligent than he pretends to be, therefore he is dumbing down to appear approachable and get the 'aw a dimwit' vote! He takes pride in 'appearing to be' stupid, and it is irriatting!

The validity of IQ tests are notoriously debatable with many beileving that they are culturally weighted in favour of the communities who design and construct them i.e. well educated middle class academics and etc.

That said, if we are to go with the BB IQs then i think that Fred and Marcus where serperated by a couple of points at(if my memory serves me)123 and 125.

With the scores being so close it could be put down to performance on the day.

I think we should take the BB scores with a very sceptical pinch of salt though as many of the house mates were given IQs that actually are more consistent with being very mentally challanged. I think Lisa got 55!!! I think it's probable that it would be very difficult to function in society with an IQ of less than 75(again i think quite a few of the HM had IQs lower than or around this mark)

Anyway even if Fred has a higher IQ then marcus, Fred lacked the ability to mix sucessfully with the rest of the house. Probably due to thje fact that the environment of Statley homes, boarding schools, and oxbridge whilst perhaps engendering high IQs leaves one unable to 'get on with' others from mixed socio economic groups.

If so then given the gramma used (not saying "identical to") it would mean expressing or resulting in identity.

The sentence could then be seen as meaning you could express an identity of yourself (one for show you most commonly use in a fake environment), but not be yourself (since the identity you are expressing isnt your true nature but mearly a facet of it used to diguise the whole).

I didnt see the conversation so dont know the context but it would be ironic if people who call Marcus crude (i.e. lacking in intellectual subtlety) do so partially because he is actually too subtle for them to understand.

Just a though.
Back to OP. Marcus is of course wrong. It is not possible to not BE yourself. You can pretend not to be yourself but that is another thing all together.

Nevertheless, yes Marcus has a high Intelligence Quotient which he uses exclusively for his own advantage. His low Emotional Quotient allows him to do this without compunction for the harm he inflicts on others.

You can't blame him for this, after all, he cannot help BEING himself. He CAN pretend to be other than himself, as he has done when he has led Siavash, Freddie and Bea to believe that he is their friend.

For me Psychology had some amizing tests that could change ones whole view on social interaction but IQ tests always stuck me as an aweful way to go about it.

How well a person does in a test can depend on what food they ate that morning or what mood they are in.

Oh I know that - which may explain Freddie's high score - as he had the best education money can buy and may well have had many 'practice' IQ tests!

But if people want to judge it on behaviour - then Marcus doesn't do very well does he! He has been one of the most immature in there with all his childish stunts etc - so in the end I guess people will use whatever type of measure they see fit to show their favourite in a positive light!

He saw out the race issue which others havent before. Survived acting like a complete moron with Noirin and seen out one of the favourites in the house (with the help of Noirin).

He will not lose this weeks eviction and given the aim of the game seems to me to being doing very well indeed to be honest.

Edit: Anyhow the Edinburgh festival is on and Im missing it so tata.

we need to seriuosly dismiss those BB IQ scores.

IQ scores are calibrated so that the 'average' score of a population will always be 100. these scores are suggesting that many of the HMs are thick(for want of a better word)beyond imagination.

I think this is where Marcus has shown he has supreme intelligence and insight. It has been exactly this kind of 'immature behaviour' that has endeared him to many and taken him so far. Never forget this is a game show and airtime and creating a compelling persona are paramount to success. Marcus has fully grasped that and has indeed created a compelling persona. Marcus has to a large extent dominated BB10.

Take for example a tribe that has lived in the Amazon all their lives. They would score low on an IQ test because of lack of education. But they survive hostile environment, can feed and cloth temselves, know where to look for water. While we would probably die within a few days of arriving, (until we took Ray Myers in oursuitcase which would be cheating). There are lots of different types of intelligence, the western world put too much emphasis on 'BOOK' intelligence.

Just for the record an IQ of 120-129 is considered 'superior' IQ. The average is indeed 100. Tests can vary and we cannot be sure how accurate BB tests were, but given they employ 'psychologists' I would have thought they would give a good indication.

Look, aswell as being both very funny when he wants to be and quite dull at other times (e.g. Noirin phase, duvet hugging), Marcus is intelligent. There is no doubt.

He is playing the game for all it's worth. Remember he calls himself the Irrepressible Dark Horse and in life he is probably what many would consider to be an underdog (background etc.), yet seems to be able to come through adversity (very strong and streetwise person). He is also very manipulative when he wants to be, yet can be kind and helpful (e.g. emotional support for Freddie and even Bea!).

I think he is quite a multiplex character, like Freddie, and it is only these two HMs, with their mix of intelligence, humour, charisma and immaturity (leading to some legendary moments), that have MADE BB10.
