Evidence?

BTW, I never said there was more fans for any particular housemate. I said the Ashleigh fans having a CAMPAIGN is much more effective in the twitter age and because the voting pool is so much smaller.

Disagree...justice was done tonight...hence the reaction. These two housemates thought that by acting the way they did as per previous BB's would win it...mark and his pathetic tantrums and playing to the cameras and Winston playing on his looks and getting the female votes whilst flying under the radar...at last the public see through their shallowness.
I admire the ones who put it out there...even Helen to some degree who has played the villain...or been the villain without trying. They are the ones who are not playing the game. Chris has played the game in that he has been honest in the diary room but not followed through in the house..that has been his flaw. Christopher has played along with the public after the Focus group scenario..that has been his flaw.. Pav just wanted to be accepted and joined the 'cool gang' because that was the only way he could find to 'fit in'. Ash and Helen are two peas in a pod...nasty but they were delusional thinking they being honest and upfront..but in fact they bitched as much as the ones they accused of being sly and bitchy. Ashleigh has bitched but she has been spot on and was smart enough not to rise to them and defended herself when necessary...and only when necessary. She has shown maturity beyond her years and IMO deserves to win big time.
Social media is just an extension of public perception and tonight proved to be a massive bonus.

Winston went because he was one of the people leading the charge against Chris over the 15k .

Winston went cos he's a complete donkey - nothing to do with an Ashleigh campaign - I just wanted the self centered shallow arsewipes out and i voted and we won !!NO let Ashleigh win **** - i thought they deserved to go, at least Mark got 5000 perhaps he'll share it with Dimbo

I think the double eviction played its part. No-one was surprised that Mark was evicted, that's where the majority of the votes will have gone. After that, the number of votes separating the others could have been quite small so then a social media campaign could become effective.

Will be interesting this week as Ashleigh, on paper, should have it in the bag, but social media has been saying Pav should have been out since the moment he arrived, and he is still there

..the thing is as Ben said, it's been that way that social media plays a part for a long time and really geared up in the year Aaron won with the cheap Facebook votes...if housemates are 'campaigned for' and some campaigns are more successful and engineer votes, it's because that housemate is ultimately more widely liked and therefore always would get more votes....

I think Winston sealed his exit after his reaction to putting the house on basic rations, given how he practically ostracised Marlon for doing the same the hypocrisy was too much for me at any rate, i don't follow campaigns

Trust joey to talk the most sense, yes it would scupper any negative campaigns. This doesn't prove fans are bigger or anymore informed, just that they're more organised and tactical. Social media has played a huge part in that in a way that was never possible in the earlier BBs when it was only the media and edit influencing voting.

I think Winstons departure could have been a result of complacency...hence the big shock.

Sour grapes from a bad loser dressed up as a serious point about twitter, facebook etc.

This has happened before - think of the last week's eviction in the year Josie Gibson won it which meant all of her competition was kicked out.

Think of the way it helped Aaron win in his year - I supported Aaron but lots didn't.

If Winston had not been evicted, you wouldn't be making this thread.

BB only have themselves to blame. Manipulation of the show has reached epic proportions - nominations have been the most unfair of any show I've watched. 2 people evicted without any public vote, one person given a free pass and thereby stopping the public have their say and only one week of normal diary room nominations in the entire 3 month show.

Did you complain about the way Marlon or Danielle was evicted ie without a public vote? Most people on here liked it because it suited them.

And then there's the outside information coming on to the show. Yes it exposed some game players who were pretending to be fun and stupid ie Mark and Winston - and got them evicted. But it's also allowed unfair targeting of other HMs (Chris) based on a lot of supposition without any evidence (creepy Chris). It has ruined the show this year quite frankly. I had virtually given up watching the weekly shows.

BB have panicked when their manipulations keep coming back to bite them on the a**e (ie creepy Chris, grooming etc.) - last night was some payback to teach them a lesson.

I would find it hilarious if Helen fans got together a social media campaign for her to win and it was successful - but then I don't really care who wins.

I have my doubts that such a campaign would be successful however, so perhaps campaigns still reflect something relevant and aren't actually something to despair of.

I agree with the OP, campaigns kind of take the competition out of the show. I wasn't happy Winston went simply because he was a nice guy and because he gave Ashleigh some competition for the win, now it feels like Ashleigh will nail a hollow victory with no real competition. I feel sorry for the fans of HMs who get outed from the campaigns. I didn't like Jale but I felt for her fans, even though it was either her or my favorite that was in the firing line.

Yep Kaz...I agree with everything you say!...I too wasn't a Winston fan ..[far too contrived for my liking!]...but as i've said many times, if it wasn't for the incomprehensibly-influential amount of power that 'the social media' wields , then Winston would have been a pretty good bet to win the series!....I'm actually glad that he didn't, but the fact that this in no way resembles 'a level playing field' for all of the competitors [game-players and all] really defeats the object of the competition...and my enjoyment of watching the programme! ...For instance, someone like me needn't bother to vote for my own favourite , ...[this time it is Christopher]...because I know that unless the SM-Campaign organiser's agree with my choice to vote for him, then he hasn't a cat in hell's chance of winning!!...And though I have come to almost detest 'Little Miss Sadleigh' [partly because I don't really like her...and ironically, partly because of her over-bearing supporters] ...I know that she is going to walk it!...And for me, that is just plain wrong!!

Joey's suggestion of vote to save just about sounds the best solution so far. ...so Kudos Joey! ...but I must admit that Winston's departure last night almost made me pack the programme in...permanently!!

I'm not so convinced that social media played a big role ( support there doesn't necessarily equate to a paid for vote). However it could make a difference on marginal results.

Lets see how things pan out with the vote to win before writing fair play out completely

edit: just to add I would love to see the metrics of forum and social media support/hate for a hm vs conversion to an actual vote. Discounting those that won't spend anything on voting, no matter what, and those not eligible because they are not UK residents, may well trim the numbers down significantly.

Didn't think we could ever agree on something but glad we have done.

I'd never want to hand something to somebody on a plate, people should have to work for it and that's double true for people I like or care about. Not that Ashleigh doesn't deserve to win, but her fans have taken the chance for her to truly earn it and become undisputed, which isn't her fault so it shouldn't hamper her chances but it was the wrong move imo.

If she wins there will be alot of people who will say she didn't earn it, which under the surface isn't strictly true, but they'll have a point none the less, they can dispute it.
