I wasnt a fan of Ashleigh at the start because I thought she was a bit too miserable but then I understood her situation better. She was stuck in the house branded in the 'uncool' group which brought back memories of high school for her, the divide in the house was nasty and uncomfortable and so she wasnt in a good place in mind and naturally wasnt going to be bouncing off the walls. Over the series though weve seen her friendships with Danielle, Chris and Christopher flourish, weve seen her get more involved in the tasks and decisions BB put to the HMs and shes developed a lot since Week 1 and now is one of my favourites.

imo some people are hung up on her being 'miserable' at times and completely ignoring the situation. I wouldnt be very happy living amongst Helen, Pauline, Steven either.

..yeah I fairly much agree with this...so much leeway is given for Helen's past and that she may have had a tough life but none is given to Ashleigh for the fact that she was bullied...and I think it's because she hasn't fitted the 'stereotypical victim' thing but the whole situation in the house from the beginning with the clique must have been awful for her and for the first few weeks she looked to me out of her depth...then she started to 'fight it' by trying to manipulate Ash from being saved...probably as a way to try to diffuse the clique and take away a big part of them..it didn't work but at least she tried and she gathered 'haters' for that...


..anyway, she's far from perfect, who is...but I think she has on the whole, conducted herself well through her time in the house and with some of the personalities that have been there...the 'language' thing is funny as well because yeah she swears, can swear with the best of them..so she's as bad as Helen/they're as bad as each other..?..well no, because with Helen it's not just about swearing, that's nothing/who cares..it's things like what she says...the toast..?..Christopher..?..things like that, whe's just plain bitter and mean and I personally don't believe Ashleigh is...most people would have to go some way to ever become a 'Helen' in this life....

Well Helen was clearly unhappy at the start, finding it hard to adjust and on the defensive but she is kind and big hearted. Ashleigh kind of gives off this disapproving of others, swearing what ever but fir an 18 year old she does swear as well and is rather sour and venomous with it.then she lies in the bath in her mini bikini like she's on display some how, look at me..double standards..not a winner in my eyes.

I think some might just go against her because they want to support an underdog or someone that's been generally nice all season like Pav, Christopher or Winston were. Or they want to support the Helen camp because they love being contrary and see themselves in her open-mouthed bluntness.

But then tbh I think people only like her because she's picked up Chris' (or the public's) hatred of Helen/Steven/Ash and put it into the house rather than into the Diary Room. She's had weeks where she's narrowly escaped eviction for being a whiney bitch with Danielle & Toya all the time, but Matthew took the brunt for that instead.

And to be fair to Helen (and please don't make me type this often), inside that house there must be a calmer, more upfront attitude around Helen than there was amongst Toya/Ashleigh/Matthew's constant whispering. I think most HMs who've been evicted have said stuff along the lines of you always know where she stands... whereas Ashleigh's openly (thanks BB!) tried to play a game.

But if there're people who hate Ashleigh I imagine it's because she gets a strong presentation of "here is Ashleigh whining and bitching" in highlights. Not enough happy moments shown tbh.

Is it so hard to believe that someone doesn't perceive helen the way that's the 'norm'?
Not because they wish to rebel against the grain of popular opinion or some vain mirroring?

Some actually 'go against' ashleigh as they can't see this happy girl, just a manipulative, self serving and rude young woman.
I don't think she's far from helen in her treatment of others but isn't as loyal to those she has around her.
I don't wish to be put in a box as a die hard helen supporter or an ashleigh hater as I'm neither, they are both as ruthless as each other and that's becoming more and more apparent.

She is a real person and real people swear. She doesn't pretend to be sweet, she IS sweet. When you are trapped in a house with scum, you react. If she wins she will be giving to an animal charity. Nasty people don't give to charity. Nasty people like Helen and Winston who scoffed at giving Ł1k to charity. Winston was one of the nasty gang and deserved to be evicted. Him winning would be almost as bad as Helen winning.

I also agree with Yaki da that people just assume she's sweet because of how she looks. I don't think she is this 'sweet, innocent princess' that people keep calling her, I think it's entirely down to her looks. I like Ashleigh and it's because she's normal and doesn't pretend to be anything as well as other traits she holds. She is a nice and caring person, but she's also human. I do think that some people on both sides of the camp either justify some of her behaviour because of how she looks or use her looks to make her behaviour seem worse than it is (which perhaps straight females who don't care about her appearance may see better than others).

I also don't know why people are complaining about her swearing. Everyone swears. I personally don't swear and never have, but I don't find it offensive and I don't care if people do it. Maybe it's because I've grown up in Australia where every second word people say is a swear word that I don't find it offensive or noticeable, but it doesn't bother me at all. Words aren't important, it's their context.

I can understand why people don't like her, because no-one is universally liked (or hated), but sometimes the reasons given seem to be clutching at straws or using traits that apply to any housemate or any regular person.

yes, some people do swear, that does not make them real, just ignorant. i don't think that you can describe someone as being sweet when they swear like a navvy. as for being trapped in the house, she can leave at any time. helen had already said that she was going to donate to a charity. very churlish comments from you about 'nasty gang'. although i do wonder what ashleighs thoughts will be when she finds out that chris was going to take the money, not for charity, but to split between himself, ashleigh and christopher. point being made is there are good and bad in both groups in the house

Chris and Christopher swear. They also bitch. They do EVERYTHING that Ashleigh does. The 3 of them are all nice people, but Ashleigh is the only one who gets hated. Because of the way she looks. Chris had a week of creepy Chris BS but was never hated for same reasons as Ashleigh. Helen would give to charity? Really? Why did she refuse to give Ł1k of the money to charity then? Why did Winston? They are nasty people that's why.

Plenty of highly intelligent people swear. It's a way of expressing yourself and how on earth can anyone be described as ignorant just because they use certain words ? I tend to think of 'sweet' as this like childlike innocence where glitter just pours out of every orifice and not really as a compliment, which is why I don't really consider Ashleigh sweet. That's not to say I don't think she's a nice or caring person though.

I think out of the house away from Helen and her nasty gang she is sweet caring person. Being trapped with Helen brings out the coping mechanism. It is easier to defend yourself if you fight back rather than carry on being sweet and caring.
