it was unsafe for many travelling late at night on trains in the past, I personally always picked the busiest carriage if i was travelling late at night. I did witness a drunken attack on a passenger, where we all got up and restrained the drunk. Job done.
These days, all trains have cctv installed, so they are much, much safer than they used to be. In fact I haven't seen any incidents since they were installed, so I'm not sure the issue really exists now. Of course there will always be the occasional nutter, but women only carriages aren't going to prevent someone who really wants to cause problems from doing anything. |

Idk I have mixed feelings about this.
I can't see it being practical, but from what I understand is that these carriages would serve as a choice thing, meaning that it's not segregation as some people have put it, but women if they feel like they might be harassed can go in there. But yeah it's only an idea and not a policy, he says he will talk to women and they will ultimately decide whether or not it becomes a policy which is very sensible and I respect that. Who knows womens issues better than women? |

& I also think more policing would be wise, a divestment of some defence funds from trident to extra police would be good imo

I don't think the tax payer should be footing the bill! We already pay outrageous ticket prices for train/ tube travel that can pay for it as part of reinvestment...

People are desperate for a stick to beat Corbyn with.
If it's worked well in other countries then I'd say give it a go. |

The only time I've ever been accosted on a train was by a drunken woman. Corbyn is an idiot perpetuating the myth that men are violent rapists and women are all sweetness and light. If that's true, how come there are so many violent women in prison right now?

I have no idea if this would work or not just because it has in other Countries, however I would rather take my chances in a mixed carriage if I was not travelling alone but with a son, brother, father, or any male sibling or friend, but that is just me. If women fought for equality, shouldn't they just be allowed to be treated as equals and not wrapped in cotton wool. Maybe the idea was well intentioned but also not thought out that well. Or maybe I make no sense, if so just ignore this post.

This is not an issue where anything is really irrelevant or should be discounted. However, clearly there have been women who are worried about being harassed or sexually harassed on trains. If there was feeling they would feel safer in an all female carriage, then there is no harm whatsoever in looking at how something like that could be arranged. Until such time as there is as near guaranteed safety and security for all on all forms of transport, not just trains. In this tense age, all public transport should be fitted with the tightest and reliable security for terrorism anyway,if that was done no one could even then get away with sexually harassing or assaulting anyone on any public transport. At least Jeremy Corbyn has listened, maybe this is far from being the best idea at present but at least he has given thought to the problem and warrants credit for that. It is time this govt after 5 years in power and endless threats as to terrorism and other attacks.made sure all public transport was totally safe and reliable to use, rather that just talk endlessly about issues and do absolutely nothing whatsoever of any note to deal with same. Most people likely do not come across such attacks or harassment, maybe they are not people travelling very late at night either. However, if enough people are worried about it to have raised it as an issue, for goodness sake let us give credit to anyone who at least has listened and is toying with ideas to deal with it. Rather than use the opportunity just to get at Jeremy Corbyn, because he appears to be someone with radical,if not old, ideas who is now striking a strong chord with the average people and voters in the UK. While admiring those already in power who allow such attacks to take place and it seems increase too while doing not a thing at all, not even listening likely to the people who have complained at harassment and raised the issue too. |

If it appears a popular avenue to pursue, how long do you think it will take the conservatives to jump on it ![]() As to Jeremy Corbyn, he will have to demonstrate a more rounded political stance before i part with 3 quid to give him a vote

Oh I would think the Conservatives would be on it in a flash if it looked a popular bandwagon to jump on. Mind you, that can be said for all other parties too. ![]() Maybe Jeremy Corbyn is not your cup of tea, that is perfectly reasonable as a line for you to take, however he has already surprised me as to the groups of people he is reaching and who have come to like what he says, even if they don't care for him. I wait and see, however more and more now I feel he just may as some are saying, in the end confound his critics and stun the vast majority in succeeding where others, especially in the labour party, have failed. Interesting times ahead for sure, if he does get elected Labours leader. |
