I met mine in school but we've drifted apart in recent years so now I don't have a "best".

And I find the term "best mate" quite childish anyway.

Edit - Well, actually I had another who moved in around the corner and we're still in contact but not on the level of "best" anymore either.

I've got a few really, I met one when I was 1, I don't quite remember how that one started, but in a way I can't remember life without her.

Another one was at school, we'd been friends for about 3 years and then she joined my ict class then she couldn't get rid of me!

One of them I met in a virtual BB house, really odd how that happened, but we formed a real bond, I stay at his house for a week or so every now and again, people moan about how sad these games are, but I've made a friend for life from one!

I met my best friend through a guy I was friends with and she started going out with him. We didn't like each other at first at all...she was jealous of my friendship with her boyfriend and I didn't like her as she was a stranger lol. We had both arranged to meet the boy one day but he didn't turn up so we begrudgingly started talking to each other, she turned up at my house that night and barely left after that and now nearly 25 years on she is still the best friend I would ever want
