Yep just been having a read and i think it's most definitely masonry bees we have. I'll mention to my partner about checking the yellow pages thanks.

Josy they only make a nest and move on so just ignore them, they would not sting you unless you grabbed one in your hand they are perfectly harmless so just forget about them

Never been stung but have had close encounters, especially in Greece last year they came in packs and hovered around bins that were wonderfully placed near the pool bar. I think they were bigger ones too

I pretty much agree LT, plus I love Bees, they are becoming endangered now as are butterflies, so we should encourage them by planting flowers and such, not murder/get rid of them I have planted stuff to encourage them to my garden.

I've been stung whilst I was 25' up a ladder and pointing when a whole binch of them attacked me. I have NEVER descended a ladder as quickly in my life.

When I was young, my friend and I were sitting on a wall talking, and he had an open Coke can which was on the wall by his side (I don't drink fizzy drinks and only drink coke in Bacardi) He picked up the can and took a drink and a WASP - which was inside the can - went into his mouth. It was terrible watching him. He was stung INSIDE his mouth several times and ended up in hospital.

Feck that.

I hate Wasps and Bees - in fact anything which flies which has a bite or sting and moves faster than I can.

Wasps are aggressive bad tempered things.
I was stung as a child by one.

Bees don't bother me at all.

So the rest of the world is signing petitions and going on marches against big corporations spraying pesticides that are killing off our bee population... and Josy is like... not in my back yard bees

When is humanity going to understand that we live in a shared eco-system...and that bees are one of the creatures integral to our own survival. It's worth the risk of being maybe stung.... but most likely not... to ensure their survival

Got stung in or near the eye by a bee once which was quite painful, eye swelled up massively and couldn't see out of it for a few hours

Generally I don't mind bees or wasps though surprisingly given how terrified I am of spiders and most insects. Feel a bit sorry for wasps really because everyone likes bees but treat wasps as the ugly stepsister

i was stung by both as a kid and my memory is that it was ****ing painful. So, ever since then, i have been very careful around them. However, i was having a leisurely sandwich on the balcony once while i was living abroad, and this hornet buzzed me and pinched a chunk of my sandwich That was one scary ****er

Only a honeybee keeper would be interested in a swarm above ground and loose

Well I can't speak for humanity but I'm perfectly aware that we live in a shared eco system.

I never mentioned anything at all about killing off any bees in my posts....
