So murder is illegal and abortion is not, you're absolutely correct. So would it make you a little bit angry if a advert selling women's products claimed that abortion is murder.

There was nothing in that advert that was portrayed as exaggerated or misleading though

It’s a virtue signalling vom fest done purely for publicity and to get women to buy Gillette products for their husbands.
It’s all about the moneys as LT and TS said. They’ll go back to aiming their ads at men again soon. |

The phrase is derived from studies that focus on violent behavior perpetrated by men, and—this is key—is designed to describe not masculinity itself, but a form of gendered behavior that results when expectations of “what it means to be a man” go wrong. The Good Men Project defines it this way: Toxic masculinity is a narrow and repressive description of manhood, designating manhood as defined by violence, sex, status and aggression. It’s the cultural ideal of manliness, where strength is everything while emotions are a weakness; where sex and brutality are yardsticks by which men are measured, while supposedly “feminine” traits—which can range from emotional vulnerability to simply not being hypersexual—are the means by which your status as “man” can be taken away.

Why not focus on the men that risk their lives to save the lives of people they don't even know? Or the dad who teaches his son to be a good human? Or the sports star being a winner? Or the man who gets married and raises a family? Or the man who works hard to build the roads and buildings.? You know, the average man Last edited by Alf; 15-01-2019 at 03:24 PM. |

I’m assuming this term ‘Toxic masculinity’ is a derogatory term dreamed up by feminists for traditional masculinity which Piers has some views on here:

So if your point is they shouldn't have used these words and phrased to get a knee jerk reaction that would have everyone talking about and posting about their ad... sure, that's a valid point. But as TS and LT said on the first page... it's the nature of advertising and "no publicity is bad publicity".

It makes out that things like wolf whistling and men hitting on women (I don't mean physically hitting I mean trying to pick up) as bad things, when in fact they're great things and much needed. And no blue or red or orange or green haired feminist butch dyke is gonna change that.
