Did he apologize? Yes, did he admit responsibility for the things he said? No.
Is this issue important? Yes, it damaged the image of the conservative party further and soured relations between the government and the police federation.
How the public view those in positions of power, responsibility and trust is important.

He did David Cameron no favours by staying on so long. It still remains though that he clearly did nothing that resulted in his arrest for anything he said. So for me it is unfair someone loses their status in such a scenario.

Maybe had he said he did use the word, it might have gone away,as it is you have him in effect saying the Police are lying as to the words used and they in effect saying he is too.

Some of the police ARE plebs,and from what I have read ,he said he didn't call them that,so do we believe the police or him,obviously if you dont like the Tories you will believe the police,but some of them are as corrupt as some of the ministers,you'de think they would have something better to do than pursue him for that,lol,what a silly thing to lose your job over.

It's incredibly disturbing that we live in a society whereby a policeman initially kicking up a fuss over a heated exchange of words, can result in someone losing their job through an alleged insult and the frenzy caused by this resignation means people are out celebrating & rejoicing- yet a policeman who tasers a blind man is not subject to the same amount of witch hunt and treatment.

I'm happy to have offered comparisions that have shown how inept the police can be that have been spotlighted in recent weeks.

It seems that the officer even in his shock and embarrassment following the outburst knew that this was not the way in which such a high level public servant should behave?
