Netherlands: Foreign Affairs ministry says too early to pull embassy staff from Ukraine The Netherlands currently does not see any reason to remove embassy staff from Ukraine, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. "We are constantly monitoring developments and are constantly weighing up what steps we need to take," the ministry said. "Of course, we will consider whether there are grounds to let embassy employees leave. At the moment, there is no reason to do so," the spokesperson said. The Dutch embassy is located in Kyiv, 150 kilometers south of its northern border with Belarus and around 240 kilometers away from the Russian border. The Netherlands also has a consulate in Lviv, near the country's western border with Poland. The US State Department has urged relatives of embassy employees to leave Ukraine, according to Fox News, amid rising tensions at the Russian border. Bild also reported that Germany is preparing for possible evacuation. Russia has around 100,000 troops stationed at Ukraine's border, which are ready to attack at any moment, US officials stated, according to the Guardian. British intelligence services reported that Russia is trying to help a pro-Russian politician into office in Ukraine. Russia has denied the accusation saying it was "false information." Orange travel advice applies to most of Ukraine due to tensions with Russia and the coronavirus situation. Orange travel advice means that trips that are not strictly necessary are discouraged. For the conflict areas of Donetsk, Lugansk and Crimea, the travel advice is red, which means that all travel there is discouraged. Last edited by Nicky91; 23-01-2022 at 02:13 PM. |

of course Crimea is a conflict area, it is the only area of interest for Russia, it always has been
Crimea belongs to Russia, but no Ukrainians become greedy and want to take everything for themselves, Ukrainians need to stop pretending they are ''innocent'' they once belonged with the Soviet-Union, and Russia was the no.1 nation of that supercountry |

i stand with Vladimir Putin, still support him as a world leader, and also ask yourself this
why would Putin intend to go to winter olympics opening ceremony if so called ''evidence'' from hypocrites in USA with their CIA spies insists that Putin is planning a ''invasion'' of Ukraine and where is this ''evidence'' exactly? |

yes i know this, some are really anti-russia, but some don't mind russia
some ukrainian artists perform gladly in Russia, but some are completely against that for example, in 2019 they had a pro-russian artist MARUV winning their national selection, but it was against broadcaster rules which she wasn't aware of during this selection, was quite a mess, and it led to them withdrawing from ESC that particular year so the mess within Ukraine itself isn't helping to this conflict either, wish it wouldn't come to a invasion but diplomatic solution |

USA has asked all the Embassy Families
to leave the Ukraine, due to the "possible" Russian Invasion. Last edited by arista; 24-01-2022 at 05:13 AM. |

i genuinely think you should be careful Matt. If the embassy ends up closed and things go to pot you could end up stranded without any means of assistance. Even if the embassy stays open, it could become more lawless than it usually is

Yeah I'll probably make a late decision based on what happens next few days but it's probably trending towards being too risky to go. I only paid £25 for the flights so its not like I've put up a lot of money to go

I think our MTVN is used to that in the hostelries he frequents

Staff being withdrawn from US and UK embassies, this isn't looking very positive

Ridiculous situation that the UK can be held to ransom by the need to access natural gas from Russia.
The UK should have gone full-nuclear decades ago, and have cheap clean abundant energy by now and not be reliant at all on gas for power generation and home heating. But it was made the boogeyman so people became too scared to use it. The UK is extremely geologically stable and a prime place to be using nuclear energy! I'd be wary of plonking a nuclear plant in California or (...umm...) Japan but the risk in the UK is practically non-existant. The only other major nuclear incident was Chernobyl and it was a catalogue of incompetence, errors and Soviet budget cutting. Anyway... yes... we should not be in a position where we're relying on a semi-hostile nation for our energy needs ![]() |

Instead we're still heavily reliant on fossil fuels. Most homes still use gas directly for central heating. Don't get me wrong; I much prefer a gas hob to electric, but it's not ESSENTIAL. |

we get very little of our gas supply from russia in % terms
However, we don't store it here anymore in any significant quantity and that makes us very vulnerable to supply issues If memory serves me correctly, most of our gas comes from Norway |

Of course, but The Whole World Gas market gets effected by Russia. So Norway will be forced to increase their price. |
