yes i know this, some are really anti-russia, but some don't mind russia

some ukrainian artists perform gladly in Russia, but some are completely against that

for example, in 2019 they had a pro-russian artist MARUV winning their national selection, but it was against broadcaster rules which she wasn't aware of during this selection, was quite a mess, and it led to them withdrawing from ESC that particular year

so the mess within Ukraine itself isn't helping to this conflict either, wish it wouldn't come to a invasion but diplomatic solution

USA has asked all the Embassy Families
to leave the Ukraine, due to the "possible" Russian Invasion.

i genuinely think you should be careful Matt. If the embassy ends up closed and things go to pot you could end up stranded without any means of assistance. Even if the embassy stays open, it could become more lawless than it usually is

Yeah I'll probably make a late decision based on what happens next few days but it's probably trending towards being too risky to go. I only paid Ł25 for the flights so its not like I've put up a lot of money to go

Ridiculous situation that the UK can be held to ransom by the need to access natural gas from Russia.

The UK should have gone full-nuclear decades ago, and have cheap clean abundant energy by now and not be reliant at all on gas for power generation and home heating.

But it was made the boogeyman so people became too scared to use it. The UK is extremely geologically stable and a prime place to be using nuclear energy! I'd be wary of plonking a nuclear plant in California or (...umm...) Japan but the risk in the UK is practically non-existant. The only other major nuclear incident was Chernobyl and it was a catalogue of incompetence, errors and Soviet budget cutting.

Anyway... yes... we should not be in a position where we're relying on a semi-hostile nation for our energy needs . Madness.

we get very little of our gas supply from russia in % terms

However, we don't store it here anymore in any significant quantity and that makes us very vulnerable to supply issues

If memory serves me correctly, most of our gas comes from Norway

Of course, but The Whole World Gas market gets effected
by Russia.

So Norway will be forced to increase their price.

All Energy Markets are outside of UK Control
on pricing.
Russia affects the other Gas Supply Prices

That's why it's Front Page today

Yes but my point is, natural gas in 2022 SHOULD be a completely outdated form of energy, we should have gone completely nuclear decades ago and be well into transitioning to renewables (backed by some nuclear to counter unpredictability).

Instead we're still heavily reliant on fossil fuels. Most homes still use gas directly for central heating. Don't get me wrong; I much prefer a gas hob to electric, but it's not ESSENTIAL.

Yes.
But we are stuck in this current World market price
It will take 10 years or more to change

I think our MTVN is used to that in the hostelries he frequents

Staff being withdrawn from US and UK embassies, this isn't looking very positive
