Coups very rarely result in better conditions afterwards. There's really nothing you can do or should do. This is Turkey's problem and they have to deal with it themselves.

On the one hand I can sympathise with the army's motivations

On the other I deplore military coups and nothing good can come of the army usurping power

Amazing that this seems to have come out of nowhere - to carry out something like this takes weeks of planning and the involvement of thousands of people from senior commanders to the rank and file yet no one was talking about it. Crazy times we live in.

It truly is, Cherie. She wa so devestated because she landed in Turkey three or four hours earlier than when the coup began. I reassured her that she would be fine in a holiday-type resort, but it's such a frightening situation.
