she ticks most boxes in the royal family, doubt that prince Philip would let him marry her years ago but he's mellow with his age, at least harry is not marrying some princess from a strict Muslim country, if he did that, it would cause a huge uproar, and he will have to convert to there religion, and it will not go down well with the royal's and the upper class, and his girlfriend will fit in very well there.

Prince Harry wants to invite the Obamas, who are personal friends. Nobody wants to invite Donald Trump. If Obama gets to meet and chat with the royals and Trump isn't even welcome in Britain it could be the end of our Special Relationship (which I actually think is down the spout anyway).

This could be great fun.

I see she has already been paraded in grotesque fashion in a Ł56,000 dress!
While the country is crippled with austerity, what a revolting display of ostentation.

Viva La Revolution!

liberté, égalité et fraternité.

Storm the Bastille!

Bring on Madame Le Guillotine

Oh wait I forgot, Napoleon once said you can't have a revolution in England

Don't mock me, I have my own mind and if I want my own revolution right here in my living room I will! Don't you have some fan fiction to write or something?

Meghan's semi-sheer Ralph & Russo dress with gold feather detailing and a ruffled skirt is racier than what we're used to from royal fiancées - although it certainly comes with a regal price tag, thought to have cost Ł56,000.

I agree its very pricey but maybe she paid for it herself

someone will put a high street version out and it will sell out, just like the coat she wore ...hard times..

Maybe she did? Who cares, my point still stands it is an ugly show of ostentation when across the country many are homeless relying on foodbanks.

What am I meant to feel?... I don't understand Cherie.
It's a lovely young woman in a dress made literally of spun gold and the toil of millions of worms... how apt.

And the cold comfort is many can splurge their insufficient wage on a polyester version?

Not cold comfort but ironic that people will find money to buy the polyester version in times where everyone is poverty stricken apparently

You don't think people are poverty stricken, do you know what the average student debt is?... or how easy it is to get credit?

if she wants to wear a 56k dress and she can afford it or was given it, what is the problem?

Personally, if I see any news relating to her and Harry now I just switch channels. She may be a nice girl and all that, but I really couldn't give 2 ****s

I see pop stars, footballers and celebrities of all kinds parading around in clothes worth a ridiculous amount of money, and then see those same people on Comic Relief, Children in Need etc. asking us to give what we can.

Agreed, and then a few months later they are all pedalling their latest fragrances and fashion lines. Those with wealth will always flaunt it

What has that to do with the royal family and what they represent as figureheads for the United Kingdom?
Try to maintain the thread topic otherwise it whole thing derails and makes little to no sense.

You started the derail at post 78 and others piled in.

When are we going to get back to discussing how Harry can do better than second hand goods

Second hand goods? What is this 1950? Megan is a beautiful and successful woman, Harry has done well for himself

Firstly, don't be so bloody rude! My comment was COMPLETELY in context with the thread.

If it's the Ralph & Russo dress you're referring to, they are British designers. Like Kate, I imagine that Meghan will raise the profile of British designers across the world in much the same way that Princess Diana, and indeed the Queen have always done. This gives British fashion houses publicity they couldn't buy, demand goes up, more jobs are created... it's simple really.

It's undeniable that the royals make a mint for the British fashion industry. Also, there are lots of up and coming young British designers who make their clothes in the UK, and the royals tend to support young British designers. Lots of department stores - John Lewis, Debenhams - are stocking more British-made clothes... But beside all that, Meghan Markle is a woman of independent means, she may well have bought the dress herself. Who are we to police who spends how much and on what?

She comes across as a bit fake to me and the clinging to his arm body language is a bit weird. I wonder if she'd be quite so in love if he was some ginger waiter from London. The cynic in me feels the actress got a great new job.

As to her frock, well as has been pointed out most celebs who can afford to dress it up and really if they earned it they can spend their money how they want. We might hope for them to spend on something more noble but few of us are that self sacrificing with money in our pocket. Also let's not forget someone has make the dress, there is a whole industry of people in a job because of those expensive dresses so cast them a thought when calling for madame Le guillotine. They are entitled to a living too. Where will they all be if we cease to cast pearls before swine and get down with our sack cloth and ashes?

The cynic in me also wonders whether she would be so keen if he was not a prince. People get far too carried away with romance and royalty.

This is no ordinary male, he is a royal and she is a divorcee. We had this issue in 1936, do people ever learn? If we must have this anachronistic obsolete system of governance then we have to do it properly
