Pacteau sentenced to 23 years for Karen Buckley's murder

The man who murdered Irish student Karen Buckley in Glasgow earlier this year has been sentenced to life in prison and ordered to serve a minimum of 23 years.

The judge called Alexander Pacteau a "callous and calculating man" and he only expressed remorse for the first time after he pleaded guilty on 11 August.

Judge Lady Rae said Pacteau's conduct after the killing "succeeded only in adding more pain and suffering onto the Buckley family."

The sentence is a joke,he should have got life,the British Judicial system is a bloody pathetic, he will probably be out in half of that, even if he's not,he wont do life I doubt.

No, I listened to the sentencing today he got life and has to serve a minimum of 23 years which I think is the maximum the judge could have given him. But I agree life should mean life, I mean even after 23 years that monster is still only going to be 44 or something

Terrible....just terrible....if only she hadn't gone with him, her family must be devastated, it's for reasons like this the death penalty should be brought back in....

I'm always curious as to know why someone would do something like this.....i guess the answer is because he's a monster.....

Oh right Niamh,my mistake,but as you said he'll be out at some point , whereas he really should rot in jail and come out feet first in a wooden overcoat.
