Anybody done this before or planning to do it? If so where have you been/do you plan to go?

Oz is one of the easiest to do. All you need to do is get the Working Holiday Visa (£330), book a one way flight (around £500/600) and go with £2500 in your bank. Finding work there is so easy to do if you just hand out CV's, especially in places like Melbourne and Sydney.

If you after more of a cultural city then Melbourne is the best choice.

Depending on how old you are, apply to the Australian Embassy for a work visa. You can probably do this online.
If you are a student you can apply to the swap programme that many countries run. Good luck.

I worked in a hostel on a tiny island in oz for 6 months

after a while the constant wolf spiders, cockroaches, pythons and ants get the better of you

Mind you the frogs, koalas and possums were great

We have a house in the southern French Alps as well as the UK and I normally work the winter months in a ski resort. My husband can work from just about anywhere in the world so we aren't tied down. We both love skiing, snowboarding and ice climbing but I broke my neck in a climbing accident last year so giving this year a break

The one thing I would say about working in the Italian or French Alps is, learn the language unless you're only planning on sticking around the British tourists. Language allows you to get away from it all and mix with the locals and it also opens more doors for you in better resorts that aren't on the UK listings.

My husband used to work in New York and loved it. Unfortunately there are no mountains in NY so I'm happy to stick with what we already have.

Except the Catskills of course, with all its ski resorts.

I've lived and worked in the US, Denver, Chicago and a couple of times in New York City. I've also worked in southern Italy and Israel.

Lived in Essen, Germany for a year working as an English classroom assistant. It reaffirmed my burning hatred for children and I hated 90% of the people I encountered in my time abroad but it was still a brilliant experience.
