TiBB'S TOP SONG OF 2016 Welcome to the Top Song of 2016. If you're not sure of what this whole thing is, here are a few links to competitions of previous years: 2016: "Into You" by Ariana Grande 2015: "Run Away With Me" by Carly Rae Jepsen 2014: "Chandelier" by Sia 2013: "Work" by Iggy Azalea 2012: "Pyramids" by Frank Ocean 2011: "Midnight City" by M83 2010: "What's My Name (feat. Drake)" by Rihanna 2009: "Sweet Disposition" by the Temper Trap 2008: "Womanizer" by Britney Spears RULES - For the early rounds, you may only vote for a maximum of two songs per artist. This game gets quite boring when dominated by stans. This'll become defunct in the later rounds when there most likely will only be one per artist remaining in the game. - You must have 100 posts to participate. I'm not allowing multis ![]() - Most rounds are just to vote for your favourites, but some will require 'negative' votes. These should be approached voluntarily rather than as mandatory, and members should only vote for songs they actively dislike rather than ones they don't like/might pick tactically. - The final will consist of ten songs that're ranked by everyone on the basis of "10pts for the 1st place", "1pt for the 10th place" and so on. We'll begin with a Top 200 of the year, hand-picked through the following methods: - Any song that has appeared in the Top 15 of the UK single charts at any point from January 1 2016 to December 30 2016 (the last chart date of the year). - Because streaming has effectively strangled the idea of anything new hitting the charts for a brief fling, I've had to also include anything that made the top 5 in Australia's ARIA 50 and top 10 in the Billboard Hot 100, but then this isn't just a site for Britons so that's not a problem really. - Even then, that only leaves 98 songs - Of those, songs originally released prior to January 1 - either as a single, or on an album released before July 2015 - have been removed. - Also, songs that have appeared in previous editions of this game cannot count. - And finally, re-releases of songs don't count (sorry, Mariah Carey). - I've shoved in a handful of songs that did well in critics' "end of the year" lists from the likes of the Guardian, NME, Rolling Stone, Popjustice and Pitchfork too. I have bolded these. Within reason, mind, I mean Popjustice are going to try and make things like 'Christie and the Dream Beats' happen and that's just silly because no one on here has heard of them. - To save the list from becoming too repetitive, artists are restricted to just their 3 highest-charting songs. In the event of songs charting at the same place, only the song that charted first chronologically was included. This rule has only affected Little Mix, Shawn Mendes, Drake and Ariana Grande. So here's how it will work.. PRELIMINARY ROUND I've compiled a list of 125 songs below, picked from singles that made the top 15 of the UK charts / other charts this year and songs that did well in critics' end-of-year lists (bolded) QUALIFYING ROUND 75 songs are required to be voted into the game by the forum. EVERYONE can submit 5 songs to be supported by other members, and every member has 10 support votes. This'll be kept tally of in the OP, and will be edited into the main list in blue Round 1: Out of the top 200, each member can choose their favourite TWENTY songs. The songs that get any votes will move onto Round 2. You cannot choose all 3 songs by an artist; a maximum of 2 per artist is enforced in the early rounds to keep it free from the pop stans ![]() Round 2: Out of the top 121, each member can choose their favourite FIFTEEN songs. The songs that get more than 1 vote will move onto Round 3. You cannot choose all 3 songs by an artist, and please keep them in alphabetical order. THANX. Round 3: Out of the top 99, each member can choose their favourite TWELVE songs. NEW RULE PART HOPE YOU'RE READING X: You can also choose THREE songs you dislike and want eliminated from the competition. REMEMBER: only pick songs you actively dislike. Don't go trying to pick the faves of people you want to annoy, or any songs you haven't even bothered to listen to ONLY songs you dislike. Each "fave" vote is a positive point, each "purple" vote means that song loses a point. All songs with an end-of-round positive score of 2 or more will proceed.Round 4: Out of the top 62, each member can choose their favourite TEN songs. The songs that get more than 1 vote will move onto Round 5. Round 5: Out of the top 53, each member can choose their favourite TEN songs AND their THREE LEAST favourite songs. As with round 3, any song with a score of lower than positive one shall be eliminated. Please only vote for songs you actually dislike rather than ones you've not heard. Round 6: Out of the top 40, each member can choose their favourite EIGHT songs. Songs that get more than 3 votes will move onto Round 7. Round 7: Out of the top 24, each member can choose their favourite FIVE songs. ----------------------------------- Final (10 Songs Ranked) Quote:
