Hmmm. The second looks more like a shop dummy, so it has more of the IT COULD HAPPEN aspect; the first, while technically creepier looking, looks more like an alien thing.

The bottom one was the first ever monster in New Who. It looked so much scarier than the top one, probably because audiences were younger in 2005, due to the hype of DW coming back. Whereas 1971 autons looked like this
