Unless you're a genius, you're at least 18 before you go to uni. And the people this is aimed at are people at university. So yes, they are millennials.

My question is, when they get out of uni and have to land in the real world, are they going to expect the whole of society to cease applauding in case two or three people are disturbed by it?

People born in 1998 are not Millennials either. Also plenty of 17 year olds go to university.

Everybody has a different interpretation of what a millennial is. And I can say with my hand on my heart, no one I started uni with was under 18. Mind you, you did have to have good grades back then.

In which case, you clearly haven't a clue what a millennial is and isn't

(the most accurate definition is anyone born between 1981 and 1996. 37-year olds are millennials. Freshers, or at least 18/19-year old ones, aren't. People with an intrinsic resentment for anybody younger than them should probably ought to brush up on their terminology before another generation comes along, although they'll probably still call that lot millennials too)

I hope the emboldened bit doesn't refer to me. After all, this thread was clearly moderated and if it does refer to me, then the post would have been removed for baiting, wouldn't it? If it doesn't refer to me, then it was a very poor choice of words.

I was born in May 1980. I'm apparently seven months too old to be a millennial. Do you know why I didn't know that? Because it doesn't matter.

Young people have always looked on the older generation as dinosaurs, and the older generation have looked at young people as pretty dumb. Probably because you have less experience when you're young. But where's the cut off point? I mean, there are people on this thread bemoaning the "older generation" who are clearly hurtling towards being that very thing. No one's young forever, the lucky among us grow up and grow older. In twenty years I guarantee there will be a whole new batch of young people believing the older generation ruined the world and that their generation is special.

For clarity, I responded to a thread that had 'millennial' in the title. I don't use the term in everyday life and I don't think I've used it on the forum before so it's strange that you would single me out in this way, but thanks for the rather pointed explanation of all the meaningless labels no one really uses in real life, I'm sure someone may have found it helpful.

A lot people see Gen Z as late 90s (such as 1997-????), meaning the oldest Gen Z people will be 21 now. Millennials are seen as 22-36, which is why its so ridiculous that we're still being called out for crap.

What's ridiculous are all the new pigeon holes we try to fit people in.

I'm in my 30s now. When I was a young person, it was young people being called out. It's just a different label.
