anamelia was a PSYCHO and kay confronted him - she had a boyfriend on the outside and didn't want to be honest about it and lewis picked up on it. that was obvious!! Yes he should have let her be the second time but he'd had a drink and it's clear he wanted to try and resolve the situation because he valued their friendship - he isn't going to invest energy in resolving a situation with people HE HAS NO DESIRE TO BE AROUND.
