I think this whole debate is fairly ridiculous.

If you don't like the traditional fairy tales, write new ones. We shouldn't rewrite stories that aren't ours to rewrite just because they aren't modern enough nor should we take life lessons from anything other than the morale of the stories themselves.

These stories as they are can open up important topics to kids that might not come up in a way they would understand if we rewrite the old stories. Again, people who don't like the old stories need to come up with their own instead of expecting what are harmless traditional stories to change for their own benefit.
