Someone I know said it sounds like a Mexican cure, like what their family has. They put Vicks Vapo rub on their chest, then put some on their feet and put socks over. So apparently that is a thing as well.

It's more interesting to hear other people's remedies when bringing something like this. I can see where people come up with the idea. Usually when I get sick, the first place I will ache is in the feet. Perhaps it's related to dehydration, as that is a major cause of aches. And this would maybe help that.

We usually wake up the most dehydrated in the morning, so we'll feel the worst.
