One of my good friends died cos of an asthma attack just a month back.

Was very hard hitting, north east people might have read about it.

His name was Daniel Bailey, only 15 years old.

So if you have asthma please do take your inhaler with you.

I have asthma and can really suffer with it, I'm a bit chesty right now cos I've got a cold coming on. I seem to go through phases where I'm alright and have no symptoms, and then I get really wheezy with it, I'll carry my inhaler around a lot if I think I might end up using it.

Yeah I've been really ill with mine today - it's come on bad a few times but I've not actually had an attack so have just been lying low for a bit until I felt like coming online. My partner's got a virus and I think he may have passed it on to me, I'm off to the docs tomorrow to see what they can do, I need to see them about another complaint anyway.

Thanks for that, I've been so worried about my partner being ill and wanting to give my little girl a good birthday last week that I didn't realise how bad I was until earlier today when I came in and got really dizzy and short of breath.

I had childhood asthma that went when I was about 8. It then came back when I was about 25. The cold and dust mite tend to be my trigger. It has hospitalised me twice now. The first was the worse. I had been getting worse all week and in the end I walked to the hospital to get some help. They took an oxygen reading from the artery in my wrist and whacked me on oxygen. When I felt a bit better I asked how bad it was and the doctor said that people with that level of oxygen in their blood don't usually walk themselves in, and if I had not I would have been coming in by ambulance later. They kept me in for 3 days. That was a bit scary.

Have fellow sufferers had their flu jab yet?

Yeah, I get my flu jab every 6 months; my mum tells me not to as I'm a "drama queen" but why on earth would I refuse a free flu jab?

I've never bothered with the flu jab, I get a cold or flu every Winter so I just let it happen really.

When you say flu, do you mean flu or a bad cold? Proper flu can kill an asthmatic. The flu jab will not stop colds.

My daughter has asthma, she struggles often at this time of year. She manages far better than a lot of people as she is very fit, she is used to pushing herself for sport. She even has an inhaler taped to her Ice hockey stick and water bottle in case she needs them during a game.

Sometimes it is flu but more often than not I get bad colds that cause chest infections (I've had 2 in the last month and have something like that now!)
