Already warned my 7 y/o about it.We only let him use the kids YT app.Luckily he’s never seen it.He has seen the scary Peppa Pig though. They title them as if they’re a normal vid to get them past the kids filter.
Some sick fks about. |

Yeah, we've had letters about it from school. You can get the app for the actual game on Playstore too.

At the end of the day, kids of a certain age are scared. Whether its happening or just an urban legend, the fact that kids under 10 know about it and are scared is a problem.

The only reason it's popular now is because of the media coverage and viral posts, it was just a kind of urban legend between kids for the most part before that.

We have barred WhatsApp and YouTube for our two small boys one is 8 the other 11,they have also had a talk in their school about it,the youngest Jude has not shut up about it ,as some of the kids at their school have been genuinely scared ,so I do think it plays on their mind a bit, luckily mine haven't seen it,I just hope it stays that way,but whoever is doing it is truly sick in the head.I've seen the video it's sick.

The only reason the media picked up on it though is because of how dangerous it could be if the wrong kids see it..

Viral 'Momo challenge' is a malicious hoax, say charities
Groups say no evidence yet of self-harm from craze, but resulting hysteria poses a risk https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...-say-charities |

There's still a tonne of misinformation about it though, people believing that it's one messed up individual or group doing it and targeting random kids. The vast majority of the "Momo problem" is kids who KNOW each other setting up fake accounts on a cheap anonymous PAYG phone to prank each other, or sometimes to bully or manipulate kids they don't like (or who are easy targets). Basically if your kid gets targeted by Momo messages, it's probably another kid in their class at school or on your street. But people's eyes are diverted by the fantasy that it's one or two online "psychos". [edit to add] This isn't a new thing; two years ago it was "killer clowns" with kids insisting to each other that they had seen one in the local park / woods / drove past their friends house and saw one looking in the windows etc etc. Last edited by Toy Soldier; 28-02-2019 at 10:31 AM. |

Each of the stepkids told me about this a few days back, before all the viral stuff took off on facebook. I ad been talking to them separately about something else similar, and immediately they were like 'is that that momo thing?' and they told me about it...then I searched. The next day a load of parents were posting about it.
It seems, that its generally through whatsapp and such, TS is right in that its generally friends 'having a laugh' but a lot of kids seem genuinely scared of it. The momo spliced in videos thing seems to be a bit of a myth...however there is dodgy messages in, for instance peppa pig videos aimed at kids, that are on the YT kids app.

She's scared of Momo but understands what it's all about... She's just scared of the face. Though she did also know about it long before it was in the news. I think it went kid-viral months ago and us slow adults are just catching up. Last edited by Toy Soldier; 28-02-2019 at 10:38 AM. |

I have watched some of the weird mashup type things, the obviously fake paw patrol things and that, its so..odd. I used to think YT kids was safe, but its clearly not. I think that things should only be on that platform after being watched, from start to finish by adults tbh. my kids arent on the Ipads that much, but I do get worried when I need the loo or something so can't be watching with them and it seems daft to set off a tantrum for the sake of like 20 seconds...luckily they only watch that RIDICULOUS 'ryans toys review' these days.

Also the killer clowns thing, there was actually some freak who dressed up as a clown around that stage and hung round my stepkids school scaring the **** out of them. He was arrested IIRC. I remember people on FB telling me it was only an urban legend and noone actually did it, people just pretended to have seen them, etc etc. Unfortunately, not here. But we have a seemingly unusual amount of weirdos in the area it seems

Ah yes, the hour long videos of opening rubbish plastic tat. Ryan actually set off my daughter on wanting those stupid 'LOL doll' things, ****ing ten quid for a lump of plastic that ends up either lost after 5 seconds or up her brothers nose

Its mainly just people doing it to amuse themselves though not to actually physically harm anyone. Still, doesn't stop younger kids being terrified. |
