Treat it like any investment opportunity. If you can afford to lose the initial outlay then go for it. If you can't, then don't.

I saw something similar on dragons den a while back, seems effective but surely its basically..a pyramid scheme type thing. Will work for some, but cannot possibly keep going forever

You're aware that this is a fake news article on a fake version of the mirror website... With photoshopped screens from the show? It didn't happen and it had nothing to do with Branson, it's a scam Parm. Though I do hope you were only jesting

It's the same as any other form of stock gambling. If the value increases and you sell at the right time, you "win". If you're unlucky and the market busts, you "lose".

But serious stock traders don't play the bitcoin game so that should tell you all you need to know.

I know people who've blown quite a bit of money trying to jump on the Bitcoin bandwagon recently as well thinking it was always going to go up and up

Bitcoin depresses the **** out of me..I remember people I spoke to online absolutely ages ago telling me it was going to be huge and trying to persuade me to invest..I ignored them and it turns out if I had listened to them I would have literally been a millionaire by now I was also scammed out of 5 BTC a couple of years back, when trying to buy something online...at the time it was 500 quids worth of coin. Now, its like like 15k! Was bad enough being ripped off 500 quid, but when looking back I see it as thousands now

Yeah, my wife has an old school friend who was an early investor / miner and was telling her it would be huge way back in 2009 when they were only worth PENNIES... but we never did it. Even £10 worth would be worth a fortune now.

We console ourselves by pointing out that if we had invested £10, we would DEFINITELY have cashed back out once it was worth a few hundred .

But yeah a lot of people saw the news about the value rocketing and thought they could make a lot of money, but it was too late to make any real money by then. The people who hit the jackpot are the ones who invested a few hundred pounds back when each bitcoin was unknown in the mainstream and worth less than £1.

[edit reason] instead of "friend" I wrote "thing". Wtf is that

Yeah I suppose thats true. If I had bought then, I would have cashed out early then still hated myself by now. Or, I would have lost the wallet address thing and would have millions worth of coins floating round the internet knowing they are there with no way of claiming them.

However it ended up I would have hated myself, so no change there

If you invest in something and it makes sufficient profit that you are then happy to sell, then you have won. It doesn't then matter if it subsequently goes further up or down, you still won.

As someone who has invested in the stock market for decades and worked in the industry at one point, you can't generate an income by hanging on to things and hoping they will one day make you a few quid.
