That lady needed to shut up cuz I was giggling and chuckling all the way thru her speech on how 'we all kept to our own' and how she 'wouldn't be happy' if her daughter dated a non Caucasian boy. Lets hope her daughters not gay andbrings home a black girl cuz that might push her off the edge

It always intrigues me to see this kind of attitude. I find it more laughable than disturbing.

Watched it all now and not good, oh dear.

I dont think the people were racist but I found some of the attitudes to be as dodgy as f*(*k. I found the mixed race guy who didnt want his daughter to go to school where she would be a minority to actually be quite disturbing. He talked of her losing her 'identity' . She needs to find her own identity.

Thanks for the link but that show failed to show either the necessary sympathy for the people moving and failed to show how this is not entirely their choice. The show failed to show how the people are being 'pushed out'

...I think I have around 10 minutes left..it’s always lovely to see all of the children learning and interacting together in schools....and as she said, children don’t see colour...but so sad that this represents a school that the father didn’t feel he wanted to send his daughter to because he was worried she may lose her identity.....look at all of those children learning together and bonding...

He was one of the few who actually depressed me a little. As the offspring of an immigrant its hard to see where that attitude comes from in him.

...I’m not sure what to say really, the landscape of where people spend their childhood is always going to look so different when they’re then looking at it through the eyes of their own children and their grandchildren etc...populations rise, areas are built on more, building faces change and become unrecognisable from what they used to be...?...it’s a constant changing thing but not in any type of negative way...they had their personal reasons for leaving and Eileen who was the eldest..?...she had a lovely bond and friendship with her Somalian neighbours but just needed to be closer to her family...

I agree the constant changing environment in this country is too often viewed in a negative way.

Watching agqain cuz I'm now officially fascinated by this programme.

18.45 'We was never allowed to mix with different cultures'. I missed this on first view cuz I was too busy laughing at her comparison with the Masoods in EE. Its a 28 year old saying this. Filmed in 2016 so we're talking about someone who was born late 80's. Suddenly I find this a bit more disturbing. Why were this family encouraged to 'Stick to their own' during the 90's and 00's when immigrants have been in this country since the 50's?

watched the whole thing now, it was very thought provoking, Eileen had lovely neighbours and didn't want to move but had no choice because her children had already moved and she was moving to be near them so in effect someone who was forced to move rather than really wanting to move. The balance of the area has shifted, just 3 white British children per class of 30, 146 different languages and a new child coming once a week with no English (though I find the once a week thing a bit hard to believe given classes are full and they would have to wait for a place?) I agreed with the Head teacher that children don't see religion or colour, however its in the broad scheme of things that there are issues as the cultures do not mix socially very much, I have had experience of this myself with my kids who went to a predominantly Asian school, the Asian kids are being tutored or at mosque or the families don't want them mixing with white/black families as they don't want any issues withboyfriends/girlfriends from different backgrounds and pre marriage pregnancies are very much frowned upon so they keep a tight rein on who their children mix with, the same goes for different religions the Sikhs want to keep to themselves as well and don't want to mix with the muslims etc, what Osman said was true enough he was picked on as a kid for being different but was then accepted as his friends got to know him and realised he liked the same things, but there were pressures on him as he said himself he had to live a dual life, being one thing at home and another with his friends, the British born people in Newham lost their places to socialise and mix as a community as the area changed and pubs closed, and its a pressure thing as well, like the Mother in the clip said ...people asking...you don't still live around here do you? although I did have to laugh as the daughter is moving to Raleigh so its hard the end of the world for them I think Newham is a prime example of an area where the balance has shifted too much, multi culture should mean just that, multi....however humans will generally try to stick to what they know, when the Irish came in the 50s and 60s there were Irish areas and Irish clubs etc, I suppose the difference was the Irish did cross marry but that is not happening in these new communities...a good watch thank you Livia and Oliver for finding it.

...It was a strange one what the Indian guy felt about ‘British Culture’ back in the day ...the somehow nostalgia of it..?...because it was back in the day that he spoke of racism toward him from the neighbourhood...and then as he said ...people accepted him for the person he was and stopped focusing on his culture and any differences in culture...I don’t see that as being any different to the here and now...it’s sadly not always that everyone looks beyond culture and cultural dress etc and at the individual...actually looking at who their neighbour is as a person, which is surely the only thing of importance...as with Eileen and her Somalian neighbours ...who she wishes the world was full of neighbours as lovely as them.....

"Varied culture we enjoy now" So you're pretty much in agreement with Clease and what he's saying, right?

And by enjoying it now, does that mean we didn't enjoy it before now?
