I actually think there should be some kind of license for owning an animal, and people should have to do basic training courses and such beforehand. I know that seems harsh, but so much of this **** goes on. I mean, when we had Ryu, literally the only reason we had him was because we had looked after him for a night because his owner wanted to go out and he didn't do wel on his own for long periods of time, but when the owner came to get him back the next morning, the dog jumped up at him happy to see him and he punched him full force in the face. Gavin refused to give him back and we changed chip and stuff to my name. Technically illegal, yes, but like **** was the poor dog (was only maybe 6 months old then too) going back to that abusive 'friend' (who is no longer a friend these days for obvious reasons).

Too many people abuse animals. I am sure many many more do the odd kick..hit..and do not abuse constantly but think its fine as its just a dog or whateve.r Its gross, and should be illegal. Its 'illegal' but there never really seems to be any punishments doled out for it. I used to watch those animal resuce programs, and regardless of the state of things, the owners only ever used to get small fines, if that

I wouldn't want her near any vulnerable animals personally.

...yeah I can understand your feelings completely, Amy...she’s not someone who should have care for any animal atm...I don’t know if that could ever change if she were to experience the damage her own behaviour can cause by working with damaged dogs...?...whether it could be something that could turn around her mindset completely...while obviously working alongside staff and being supervised etc...

I have a black lab called duke, he is amazing, everyone thinks their dog is the best dog ever but he literally is
He's a member of the family, which is why this seems so alien to me that she would attack her dog like that

I think the issue is that from that video, I don't believe for a second that her behaviour is down to believing that's an acceptable way to treat or train a dog. The way she glares at it, the agitated way she grabs it and shouts at it... That's an anger control problem. That's what she urgently needs to address, not specifically her attitude towards animals. I *strongly* suspect she would be similarly aggressive with humans if she thought she could get away with it.

What next, let’s get paedos to volunteer to help abused children? What a terrible idea. She shouldn’t be anywhere near dogs/training them

I know its plain mutilation!
Dogs need ears and tails for communication ffs and to be complete dogs

Is there a better sight than seeing your dog wag its tail? I dont think so.

What has been done to dogs for generations is nothing short of obscene. Forced
selective breeding to produce dogs that look cute or run faster are more violent etc etc etc. It's one of the biggest travesties of human kind.

Pugs are my pet hate, struggling to breath, and those tiny teacup dogs, just awful

Yeah, I only found out recently that pugs were bred to actually be like that, For some reason I thought they were naturally like that..why would you breed it specifically to make it hard to breathe..poor things

Oh FFS I hadn't even watched it and now that I have, any excuses that it's training are flat out ridiculous. For one, the first time she hits it across the head, it's for not falling for the prank she wants to make a video about. That simple. It doesn't even misbehave - it just doesn't walk into the clingfilm "trick" and tries to jump over it instead, so she smacks it in the face.

Then she physically pins it to the floor for trying to lick her and the way she looks at it ... and then at the end she shoves it off camera (again, for licking her) and then quite clearly in the reflection hits it several times.

"Training".

Our 'vet' advised this when our kitten was clawing everything in sight (including the kids )..I didn't know it was even legal..let alone offered as a first response to issues..we didn't do it. And changed vet too.

Yeah, I watched a little of it to start with, then a little more after commenting. The whole thing though..makes me feel a bit ill. The training excuse is absolutely pathetic. It really is. Thats not training. Not even a little.

The ears and tail docked thing is vile too obviously. I don't get it, even for cosmetic reasons as it just looks..odd? It doesnt look any better, infact much worse. So cannot even see it from the side of people who think cutting off parts of your animal to make it look better is fine really..

I really thought declawing was illegal in the UK as well Vicky, shocking that a Vet would suggest that

I don't understand why anyone would de-claw a cat. Maybe as some sort of extreme measure if it's an adult that's actually seeking people out to harm?

Other than that... kittens are scratchy! They don't have the same control over their babyclaws as adult cats and they're playful, so scratches happen. I got tonnes of scratches from our cat when she was a baby and she's the friendliest cat. She's only about 18 months old now and she never scratches anyone any more, and the kids pester the **** out of her .

So basically there's just no need. They'll grow out of it when they hit adulthood and keep their claws retracted of their own accord! And if it's because of scratching furniture, if you provide a good scratching post it's very easy to train them not to do that either.

Ours refused to use the many scratching posts we had for it, preferred to claw the children

We only went to the vet for advice on what to try next. Being 'advised' to do that literally made me feel ill. Wasn't even an independant vet, was like..a large chain store place :S

Yeah my fella never really scratched the furniture but he would stick his claws in people sometimes when he was playing, I used to pretend to cry when he did it and he'd stop and start licking me instead

How long has that been the case?

Abbey Veterinary Centre - advised 'declawing'. Or did as little as 4 years back. They appear to be part of larger chains too.

What is declawing?
Declawing involves the removal or part removal of a cat’s digital phalanges – the bone to which the claw is attached. Whilst the practice of declawing is relatively popular in the USA (an estimated 25% of domestic cats are declawed in the US), it is declining in popularity, thanks to anti-cruelty campaigns and being banned in some states. In the UK, declawing cats for any non-medical reason was officially made illegal in 2006, and is now punishable with a £20,000 fine and/or up to a year in prison.

Avoid chains if you can, a general rule for choosing a vet
