The past scenes take up the whole screen, and they’re slightly brighter in colour. The present scenes have the black borders top and bottom, and they’re slightly duller in colour.

Ok jk but yeah the flashbacks were sooooooo confusing for me at first so thanks this helped quite a bit for episode 2

As for the time frame.... how far back are the flashbacks? A few months before? I also feel like there's actually about 3 separate timeframes they switch between but maybe I'm tripping. Maybe I was thinking that just because of the couple flashbacks to the night of the dance (which is like a few days before present day I believe??
