Oh I don't refute that his words could theoretically be used in the wrong way. But he clearly didn't mean them to be, he made the mistake of assuming everyone in the room had an IQ higher than a tub of yogurt.

...just referring to your post...’it’s influenced by a dislike of Farage’...it really isn’t, I’m thinking that you may have realised that I’m no huge Boris fan either...but I haven’t really engaged in any of the conversations about his use of words recently...with Farage though, he for me is becoming more a ‘serial offender’ with his choice of hostile phrases, which are including weaponry...and he’s also personally been subjected to milkshake attacks...and then afterward, condemned any use of ‘joke words or phrases’ that could be interpreted as incite full....the irony of him having just been investigated by our police force for his own hostile word choices...our very, very stretched police force atm, as well...

whenever you want to take a cut to something, whether it be a film, a book, an organisation or whatever, it is customary to to say take a knife to it. If it were not a common saying it could be considered unusual and therefore threatening, but it's not.

The title of this thread is incredibly misleading, because Farage neither encouraged others to violence against the civil service or suggested he would be violent. And for the record, I detest Farage, i am certainly not one of his supporters.

Exactly like when BB was AXED we all knew it didn't mean Emma had murdered the producers

You'd be surprised

Some people go through life not knowing there's independent Ireland

...I won’t use the word stupid but it was very thoughtless indeed for him to use words that used valuable police time in an investigation.../...hopefully he’s learned from that...

...he did use the wrong expression though...(..that’s something he said himself..)...there is no phrase so far as I’m aware that would be to take a knife to...things are axed...like a TV programme..?...it still wouldn’t have an axe ..(..as in referring to an actual weapon...)..taken to it, it would be axed/cut etc...no use of a specific weapon used or necessary...These phrases, how they are being manipulated to evoke images of hostility is IMO an intentional thing in some cases...possibly all cases...

He was talking about "pen pushers" so maybe the old phrase "the pen is mightier than the sword" crept into his head.

...my head is spinning with swords, knives and axes...he obviously didn’t mean what was said and that’s what has caused the police investigation and discussions etc...and it does fit with the recent controversies of phrases and words used by our politicians atm...it is just not wise in these heightened emotional times, to use any ‘hostile terms’ I feel...it’s unnecessary at best and dangerously careless at worst...especially as the people using them not only carry their own weight in terms of potential influences...but they also are very much, potential ‘targets’ themselves, of the ‘loonies’ out there...anyways, enough weaponry chat for a Sunday morning for me...you enjoy your day, Oliver....
