He wanted to leave, it was no secret. He was pilloried for not coming out vocally for remain and also for advocating leave he couldn't win.
Yeah, it is obvious from his record in politics that he is a Eurosceptic in the style of the late Tony Benn. He would have likely backed Leave - had he not been leader of a party which is largely pro-EU - at the time of the referendum.
