From what I read a large proportion didnt know they had been raped and only found out when the police contacted them

The police must feel awful as well having to break that news. In a way they might feel that they have ruined the victims' lives (obviously not true) as without knowing what happened to them, they could have carried on living happily.

It's such a horrible situation all round.

I read in one article that although unconscious, some of the victims were seen/heard in the video showing pain/discomfort or whatever and vomiting, but because they remained unconscious they could not do anything.

Male rape is largely an unreported crime, a lot of men don't want to admit what has happened to them since society tends to make light of male sexual assault victims and a culture of toxic masculinity between men often leads to victims remaining silent. They don't want to admit they're a victim and that they could be victimised in such a way, especially if they are straight because that's a whole lot of other baggage they've got to deal with as well.

A lot of his victims will be suffering in silence and we can only hope that this news brings them some solace and that they can find a way to process and eventually heal from what's been done to them.

Not to mention the actual ordeal of reporting it, having to relive it, being put on trial yourself and the low conviction rate of such crimes (though to be fair I think that seems to be more if you're a woman)
