the actual other name for covid-19 is SARS-NCov2

but SARS had a higher death percentage

this current virus is more inbetween of a regular flu (so more worrying than that) and SARS (but lesser deadly only for certain age group 55+)

no need for any panic, just avoid places like Italy, Iran, Japan, ''China still'' although China has lesser new infections compared to last few weeks

I am saying this yes, warm and humid conditions are generally perfect for growing anything, veg, flowers, viruses.. ie greenhouse conditions

also a greenhouse conditions are like 40 to 50 degrees

That's one of the most bizarre things about this (and Nicky is right) - actual academics and virologists are NOT really panicking about Covid... yet the public (and even governments) are getting into a frenzy.

So when it comes to stocking up, I'm torn. It really is like the "beast from the east" situation. Do I think my area is suddenly going to end up under a massive virus quarantine? No I think the chances of that are very low. If everyone just shopped as normal there'd be no shortage and it would be fine.

BUT - do I think people are going to get themselves worked up and strip the shelves bare? THAT is very possible. So I'm stuck in that place where I'm considering panic-buying because I know a tonne of other people are going to panic-buy

.

Here's a tip though; DON'T PANIC BUY BREAD ffs. The shelves were BARE with the Beast from the East and I can only imagine an absolute tonne of bread ended up going mouldy in people's cupboards

. If you want to be stocked for bread, buy a sack of bread flour, a big pack of yeast, and make sure you're stocked on table salt. That's literally it. You can now have as much bread as you want for months.

Also don't panic buy empty carbs that's just daft. Pasta and white rice? Very good you'll have a full belly and zero nutrition. Buy brown rice, whole grains, nuts, beans and pulses. Make sure you're stocked up on things like tinned tomatoes and herbs/spices (of course your kitchen should be already if you're not a neanderthal) to keep things interesting and you're good to go.

Bet it's the bread that flies off the shelves again though

indeed, they have already done their research about this type of influenza

there are also good things happening in Netherlands

that one hospital in gorinchem which had went in lockdown on sunday has now re-opened partially again

our government has went into meetings with our medical experts, and they said they will perform routine tests on everyone who has at least one of symptoms (even just coughing) out of pre-caution

was there also this amount of panic, at this scale during first SARS outbreak?

that one was deadlier if we talk percentages

SARS: 15%

Covid-19: 2%

The virus primarily spreads between people in a similar way to influenza, via respiratory droplets produced during coughing or sneezing. so it is similar to an influenza

Pleased to report that I have just run in to get a pint of milk and me buying a few extra teabags and some passata have not stripped the shelves bare

Why would anyone panic buy bread unless they can freeze it? as Smudgie says a bag of flour and some sultanas and you can make scones

I'm not worried about the virus itself, but if a lot of people get it and are off work things will slow down inevitably

i bought 2 extra boxes of wine just there is case there is a run on them

I was not happy using a covvid ridden shopping trolley

when i got back i washed b]my hands in cold water (could not be bothered to wait till the water heated up) for about 8 seconds. The steering wheel of the car, its door handles and the front door are all infected for the next 5 hours or so

btw imagine being a dentist, that must be fun
