I'm edging towards believing option two because I think people are severely underestimating the looming economic catastrophe, whilst governments are all too aware of it. They can't say these things outright though because SoMed deems it "choosing money over lives" as they're incapable of understanding how closely the two are linked.
The public narrative seems to be the NHS are all good (even the people who run it appallingly in many cases) and the government are stupid and bad. The public are stupid and bad (mainly the poor thick ones) and them and the government are to blame for everything. If i clap the NHS once a week i can be absolved of any blame?
