the problem is that people have no fear of the police in the UK, which is a good thing in 99.999% of circumstances, but not really at the present time. Anyone that has dealt with the police in China or Russia as examples knows the difference, you are crapping yourself. In Moscow now they are using cams with facial recognition. You get a visit and if you didn't have a valid reason for being out, you are locked up for 7 years. That focuses the mind

Hmm I read an article that said situations like this can see the public more open to the idea of a police state....

yes, we are very vulnerable to it, and the police want more power at the moment ... i'm not comfortable with that.

We are in an authoritarian police state now, it happened over night and it could be a long time before things return to normal. I think it's Hungary, although i could be wrong, where parliament voted to give the PM unlimited power, with no time limit .... that isn't democracy

I'd rather die of Covid and have my kids grow up without a dad than have them live in that world. And that's not even an exaggeration.

Don't worry Annie, I've put the bouncy castle in a storage unit under a fake name, they'll never find it.

the thing is, if those out partying are staying within their own isolation groups (as everyone else is locked down) then the only real people they are putting at risk is themselves.

Listened to guy who rang in from Germany yesterday (Irish we get everywhere ) they hand out on the spot fines if you are breaking the guidance, if you can't pay there and then it will come out of your salary/benefit, or if under 18 parents will have to pay

Once again the UK is far too soft, this weekend is going to be carnage, with hot weather predicted until Sunday
He also said that the German culture was for people to be more respectful and law abiding that the British ... fair point

Agreed . I’d let the cops use tasers as often as they want for these selfish bar stewards

We live in a lovely quiet cul de sac and every family is abiding by the rules completely APART from the three oldest guys in their late 70’s to mid 80’s . They have carried on with their normal lives .. each one makes at least 3 trips out each day in their cars ..

Manchester police has to deal with over a thousand breaches of the new laws last weekend .. they say things have been getting gradually worse by the day .

This weekend’s nice weather will be too much for these idiots and I fully expect that harsher conditions will be enforced next Tuesday .

There was a Manc lady phoning into LBC this morning to defend Manchester folk ...

She finished by saying that they didn’t think they were breaking the law she said they were simply ‘finding ways around the rules’ !!!
