Was a tight budget for many years (and at times straight up dire) but these days - finally - we have excess income every month for savings / unexpected expenses / just buying nonsense that we don't really need.
Both of our credit ratings are ****ed for the next 2 or 3 years though, debts etc (and not paying them) hit their worst point in the 6 months or so just before our income dramatically improved... turns out it takes forever to repair a wrecked credit rating.
