None of it has been well thought through once again.

If they were to propose shutting non-essentials (offices back to WFH where possible, close leisure stuff, dining in, and gathering places) that would be much more sensible. Keep NHS services, schools and retail open.

They are talking of a 2 week lock down so would make sense to include the Scottish week and the English week (unless scottish schools get 2 weeks), then only a week of school would be missed for both sets of kids

I'll be surprised if they do another nationwide lockdown on the same scale again. They'll take the deaths over the costs.

Indeed, if the curve follows the same trajectory as it did in March/April then, frankly, I think we have to consider the possibility that many of the measures that have been taken actually do very little and the correlation with dropping cases has been coincidental.

We are having a 2-week October break for some reason this year, finish on Friday the 9th and go back on Monday the 26th. Most of England seems to be the 2nd week of that?

Plenty of evidence that subsequent infections are mild or asymptomatic in the vast majority of cases due to T-cell immunity. What that doesn't help with, however, is elderly/vulnerable/shielding people who are likely to get it bad/fatally first time round, and of course much more likely to get it if there are millions of asymptomatic carriers.

In the absence of a vaccine, though, it's an inevitability, and really when thinking long term (in that scenario) it's better for as many to "get it young" as possible, as when we do all become elderly and vulnerable, people who had it when they were younger and fitter will be much better protected in old age.

That said I think it's FAR too early to "call time" on the possibility of an effective vaccine so we really want to keep levels as low as possible for as long as possible. Also, the longer we keep it from spilling out of control, the better healthcare becomes at treating serious cases. A vulnerable person who catches it even now might survive where they would have died back in April. And someone who catches it and dies now might have survived in 3 to 6 months time. They do get better at treating ICU cases all the time, that's something we rarely hear about.

I agree, they def won't do a lockdown all over the country again because the economy will suffer too much, but they still have to make out that they would be willing to

We’ve just been in the local Home Bargain supermarket .. I’d estimate only 60% of customers ( no staff ) were wearing masks !!

We are close to lockdown in our town with an infection 4 times the National average and nearly as bad as the next town who have the WORST rate in the UK ..

I asked the first assistant we saw about all the non mask wearers he said they will only conform if they get fined ... I asked another assistant ten minutes later who said ‘ it’s up to the police to make them comply” ...

I think the infections ‘appear ‘ to be milder simply because the over 60’s and vulnerable are being ultra careful and so it’s the youngsters who are being infected...

As soon as all these young selfish beggars ( around 4,300 daily and rising ) start passing it onto their families and friends things will go very bad , I fear

...I guess that we can only go on our own personal experiences, Zizu...and in the supermarket especially, I find younger people generally more mindful and distancing more etc as well as wearing masks...whereas with older people who would be seen as more vulnerable..(...and generalising again from my own experience...)...are (mostly) wearing masks but aren’t adhering to any distancing at all...and getting very up close and personal in their spacing...

Mmmm not here sadly .. I saw nobody over 30 wearing masks ... young women and teenage girls certainly weren’t .. guess they worry about their make up ..
