Yes obviously wearing a mask is better protection for yourself than not wearing one - but most of the protection is from the infected person wearing one.

The only way you'd get 90%+ protection for yourself would be wearing full PPE (medical mask, goggles, full body suit and gloves).

A lot of the rhetoric about masks being magical near-full protection is coming from the US and is a lie. If masks worked that well there would be no need for any distancing or lockdown.
