Bit stupid really. One doesn't inherit the sins of the father, let alone the great-great-great-whatever-grandfather. What happened in the past is nothing to do with him, so he shouldn't have to pay for it.

Is he really paying for it though when it's something that was inherited? It's not like he worked really hard to pay for the place out of his own money. It should be given back to the Island it was taken from

Clearly this is a different situation to normal inheritance considering the history of the house/"business" and the fact it was in a foreign country where the natives were exploited. That **** should never have happened and assets should be returned as stolen property, same way Museums should return artifacts they took from foreign countries

Only if they originally barged into someone else's house with guns, said "Ha ha this is my house now!" and then kidnapped some other people from down the street to make them do all the cooking and cleaning.

I don't necessarily agree with cold-hard-cash generational inherited debt, however, in this case as the family is still occupying the land, I think it would be reasonable enough to ask that it's given back. If it was going to cause huge financial issues then that would be another matter - but I suspect he could give the land back and still be a very wealthy chap.

Exactly. This logic of "oh but it was legal at the time" bull**** pisses me off as well, especially when it's one country exploiting a poorer/less developed country, countries that couldn't defend themselves properly. It being legal at the time is just bull****.

I guess a happy medium would be offering to sell it back to them then they get "their" land back, and he won't be out of pocket.

Sorry I had to laugh at this, in this case he literally inherited the sins of his father (or grandfather etc)
