Default Amazon halts alcohol sales in Northern Ireland

[Amazon has stopped selling wines, beers and spirits
to its customers in Northern Ireland as
it wrestles with new customs rules post-Brexit.
The online retailer is concerned
that excise duty - a tax - will now have
to be paid twice on all shipments of alcohol
which are sent from the British mainland
across the Irish Sea.
Amazon’s suspended orders in Northern Ireland
at the end of December,
shortly after the UK/EU trade deal was published,
and the decision is unlikely to be
reversed until the company obtains
clarity on the tax situation from HMRC.
One Amazon customer from Belfast,
who didn’t want to be identified, told ITV News
his subscription for a delivery of whisky
every three months had been cancelled.
“My biggest issue is they will no longer supply
any alcohol to Northern Ireland,
despite me being a Prime customer
and having bought hundreds of
items over the past fifteen years,” he said.]

They should try selling it with Double Tax
someone will.

Not good for their
Prime Customers.

Probably won't be using Amazon anymore now anyway because of Brexit and the added taxes

Could you, in theory, use one of the European Amazon sites to avoid customs charges? Or are there higher delivery charges that makes that not feasible .

I guess the whole appeal of Amazon is relatively fast delivery though.

I'm not sure really, I'll probably look in to if I'm looking for something specific but I'll probably try to stick mostly to Irish sites if possible from now on

I ordered some CDs from America recently and I'll probably have to pay 20% VAT on them because they were valued (slightly) above £39. It's the VAT that adds more than customs duty, which is only 2.5% and doesn't kick in anyway until your item is valued at (something like) 150 pounds.

when buying from the EU and the value is over £135, the duty can be up to 25% depending on the origin of the components that make up the item. On top of that you have VAT and a handling charge from couriers such as DHL. It all means that we as purchasers have very little clue what we will actually have to pay which to me is a bit of a nightmare. Whichever way you look at it, its far away from being the tariff free trade we were led to believe

I buy SHM CD and BluSpec CD's (above 24bit on sound on any player)
from Asia.
The owners put a low cost for the CD.
So it should be $40 or $50
they put $9.

I did buy one from Japan
the owner phoned me and said from an email
click the Royal Mail link
pay £20 Import tax
Then it arrived the next day.
