Quand il pleut, il pleut

…yeah this all sounds like a very severe situation and I’m not surprised there is police involvement …I would imagine there is lots of involvement from other social services as well…I mean, what is this child being exposed to as well, there could be layers of victims here….I’m sorry that her school have let her and her peers down and let you down too…there’ll be a formal complaints procedure which should be on the website …I would firstly email a governor or some governors …it is something that the school has to stamp down on for the future and especially if there isn’t a history of handling it well….even with any other services involved, you as a parent should have felt more confident for the safety of your child…. i don't think the story is fake news, the title might be sensationalist/ inaccurate, but that's hardly something new. The story itself appears to be genuine

We are considering a formal complaint against the previous headteacher… there’s other stuff as well that wasn’t addressed properly and was completely ignored by her under the excuse of “things are difficult with Covid situation”. Which I appreciate but some of them should not have been ignored. To give two examples, a less-wealthy kid in the class mentioning that they don’t have a table to do homework at, and the teacher (a temporary substitute) saying “well do it on whatever old banana box you have lying around then” - head teacher didn’t want to hear it. Also my daughter about 6 months ago expressed that she likes girls, decided to share with the class, heartening to say all of the kids (bar one) were totally supportive (and a few other came out) but the teacher… sigh… caught wind of this, took her aside, and asked her if we (her parents) and “the school” was “Ok with her expressing this to other kids”. Again the head teacher was not interested in addressing it. Then there was another incident with that one kid who was “not ok” with people being gay - he was generally bullying a few kids, both in class and online, my daughter one day was like “guys we don’t have to put up with this you know” and they all started standing up for themselves. The kid went off sick, and then his mum contacted the school, naming my daughter as the instigator of everyone bullying this kid, with a social media screenshot of her calling him a bully and a perve. Head teacher contacted us with a very stern email. I emailed back countless screenshots of this kid talking about dick pics, and a link to his TikTok account which was packed with literally hundreds of videos of homophobia and aggressive misogyny. Never got a reply I’m quite annoyed about it all Ammi |

…yeah I can understand your annoyance completely, the head teacher sounds quite awful and just either unable to or unwilling to address and handle situations in the ‘right way’ to avoid them escalating into something else and something really worrying for parents…’things are difficult…’…as a headteacher, she knows the difficulties with these sensitive issues and those difficulties aren’t COVID related, even if it has meant extra layers of challenges….schools stayed open as much as they could because they’re very used to dealing with ‘difficult and challenging’ ad a matter of normality…as a parent of two children, you know that…you know the ‘difficult and challenge’ of children…there may be safeguarding issues within the family of the boy and that could already be something that police and social services have extensive knowledge of …but for you, your issue is your daughter and her safely only and that’s so understandable…. …it’s always really difficult because I obviously can’t say any specifics and there’ll be so much confidential information as well in the things that you’re saying….but just zooming forward to your last point and the parent naming your daughter and screenshotting something…that’s obviously extremely serious and absolutely a police matter for her to have done that….I don’t know if the head teacher has gone to another school or a position entirely outside of education…but I would definitely look at a further complaint as it could become a repeated concern for other parents in the future…and having that paper trail now is important…. |

…write it all out TS and ask for a copy of the school complaints procedure…this is all something there should be awareness of for any future employer and position with this headteacher…it sounds horrific and that she’s let you all down hugely…

…in all seriousness, why are the media putting ‘Labour’ in the headline….that’s the craziest thing and the most irrelevant aspect of headlined information with the many other reasons why this is all so inappropriate for children….the seat of the council is way down on the list ….

The Redbridge Libraries Summer Reading Challenge run by Redbridge Council in east London set up the event but the library has since apologised for the 'inappropriate' costume. A full investigation has also been launched by the council to get to the bottom of how taxpayers' money was used to hire the actors. |

…I’m still not sure why you gave that information, LT or why it being a Labour council seat was relevant to be put in the media headlines by so many when the story is about inappropriateness for children….
…but so far as I can see, this particular summer reading challenge is partnered with the Arts Council England, which is National Lottery/Government funded organisation and the booking was made by the library…it being a Labour seat is irrelevant, it’s an inappropriate booking which the library have apologised for because they made the booking and the local council aren’t funding it…the Art Council is apparently…. |

…it’s not ‘taxpayers’ money, it’s National lottery donations…as often is the case, the media like to give political slants when they aren’t there ….and feed the bank of outrage culture….

One must wonder if any of this would have happened had her school banned mobile phones. |

the incident with the two teenagers didn’t occur in school, and the incident with my daughters friend, the kid who sent it doesn’t even go to their school at all… and that girl doesn’t actually take her phone to school at all. I don’t think having them in school makes a difference really. You could make an argument for “maybe they shouldn’t have phones at all” but they’re going to have them at some point, and in my opinion, it’s better for them to learn how to be responsible and navigate these situations early and while they’re young enough to get guidance with it, rather than being lobbed in at the deep end in their later teens. |
