The show has produced many professional singers but I agree the aim was to find stars and in that vein it has failed.

IF Simon didnt want the show to become a joke then why was Louis Walsh on it for so many years? No Louis means no Jedward and no Wagner,

I feel as though Louis and Sharon, and to an extent Cheryl and Dannii, largely owed to the success of the show because they were entertaining enough to create memorable moments outside of just watching every-day people sing. But judging panels in later years didn't interact as well and weren't nearly as entertaining enough to keep the show alive.
