Girls become near-women at 16 in some cases. Lads (for the most part) aren’t even close to what you’d call men until they’re at least 21. Go argue with science if you don’t like what I’m saying. I’m not the God of evolutionary trends or biology. I don’t know why it is that girls tend to be more mature than boys. I just know that it is.

It could be why girls have always been seen as being old enough to be married to older men, in some parts of the world.
