but there could be thousands that already have it in the uk ... all that has happened is that a variant has been detected in SA .... it could be everywhere.

Remember in january we had the kent variant, and it took weeks for them to identify, and by that time half the country was infected with it

Worth bearing in mind that South Africa has had very few cases for a long time and has very low vaccine uptake which gives room for any new variant to spread rapidly early on, you'd think it wouldn't be as bad here where 95% of the adult population have some antibodies against covid

they are putting everyone back in a panic, and i have a pretty strong feeling its intentional. They don't know if its vaccine resistant, they dont know if it's more transmissible, they are just painting an oh no picture without anything real to back it up. I find that very frustrating, because its just not necessary

The latest SA variant is easily the most heavily mutated version discovered so far - and it has such a long list of mutations that it was described by one scientist as "absolutely horrific", while another claimed it was easily the worst variant they'd seen.

Apparently Novavax are confident that they will have a vaccine to offer food protection against the new SA variant - it available in the next few weeks !!!
