There is a view amongst Russians that they're only losing the worst part of their society with the sanctions i.e. that which has been corrupted by the West. Nationalism is very strong there with the idea that they are the protector of Eastern culture and that they are correcting a historic wrong. Mother Russia is more important than McDonalds

Quite possibly because they don't know the hardships of the USSR and 90s Russia, their teaching of their nations history is probably quite rose tinted
