the 400 million was for a contract in the 70's that the uk did not fulfil and owed iran. It wasnt a ransom

But settling the debt has triggered her release so it’s not that dissimilar, surely

iran waited 50 years nearly to get their money back, they resorted to trumped up charges, but the uk is hardly blameless
