i think the monarchy was within 24 hours of being scrapped, people were outraged by the royals behaviour. Its difficult to know who said what from the royal family, but the queen didnt want to bend protocol one millimetre and it was Tony Blair that persuaded her in the end. That's probably why she gave him a knighthood not that long ago
