The purpose of (good) debate isn't to change your mind during the debate, it's to explore a topic and spark new thinking so that you (hopefully) take the time to look into the claims made yourself at a later time, which then might change or add to your thinking on the topic.
Having your mind changed JUST by a debate isn't a great idea, because you have no idea how accurate the things the other person/people have said are. Only exception I can think of is if you already on some level recognise that what the other side is saying is true, OR if presented with unquestionable logic. |
