Most smaller towns don't have any at all any more. Official council advice is usually "go to the nearest supermarket".

Oddly over here you're more likely to find public toilets in smaller towns than in the city

I used to let people use the toilets in th'bookies but it was off limits to two groups; under 18's and obvious drug users. Still found needles fairly regularly .Would you believe though - drug addicts were actually MUCH more understanding about being refused access to the toilets than the parents of desperate children . I mean, on one level, yes I do get it, but on the other... there are laws & cameras and no, a child I don't know needing a pee would not have been worth my job sorry .
