No NHS dentists in my area at the moment. I got kicked off my Dentist's lists because I missed an appointment (my fault, I did forget but the demand is so great that you miss one without letting them know and they remove you) and couldn't find another NHS one to take me on so have a private one now. It costs me £13 per month and they allow you to have a child on your plan too. Luckily, I've not had to have any treatment as that scares the life out of me on how much it will cost so I eat very little sugar, don't drink sweet drinks (except wine which is loaded with sugar) and brush them 3 times a day at least

I just checked for dentists near me accepting new patients - nearest one is 13 miles away and after that the next nearest one is 53 miles away

Thankfully I've kept mine from childhood about 15 miles away but the system is a bit broken

Get the Eurostar to Calais, paddle back, get picked up by a having lifeboat. You'll get an NHS dentist NO problem.

And it's out.

Instant relief and it didn't cost a penny.

Good thing is that it was one of the small ones at the back so it doesn't notice, so my good looks are still in tact.

I'll put that under my pillow for the tooth fairy. The tooth fairy still is in business isn't she?

You need to be careful for a couple of days now its out Alf. Don't have anything too hot or spicy or you could be at risk of dry socket which is apparently very painful. Do salt water rinses too to keep it clean and free from infection.

OK, thanks for the advice. I shall rinse with salt water for a couple of days and stay of the madras.

you were lucky this time Alf, if the tooth broke off and left the root you would be in agony, get yourself registered at the dentist, you might have to go on a waiting list for an NHS one

Not necessarily straight away if the nerve had died - if the root was left, we might have another thread to look forward to in a couple of weeks when the dead root starts to decay and poor Alf's face swells up with the infection.

In all seriousness Alf - A&E if that does happen, deep tooth infections can rapidly lead to sepsis (and as I think you live alone (?) you'll probably die if you get sepsis, cos you'll fall asleep and no one will find you until it's too late).

You'll be in pamphlets that get handed out in dentists as a cautionary tale .
